I vote E locker

I had a Eaton E-locker in my 06 colorado used and abused it and it never failed me. Once I get the money I'm going to get one for my JK. Eaton is a good brand reliable and there customer/tech support is awesome. Go eaton you wont regret it

I went with air. Electronics fail in the heat and are slow in the cold. I can always repair and air line, but if a solenoid goes out I'm done.

I picked up an on board air compressor and mount for maybe $200 from northridge. I went with the smaller compressor just to run the lockers.

Doesn't seem to make sense unless I found a near new rear. I did have a chance to buy a rear Rubi D44, but it was off an 08. Seems like if I was going that route, it would make more sense to just throw an E locker in.

I'm currently leaning towards sucking it up and saving for the ARB. I've been doing a lot of searches and seems many feel the Eaton design is flawed. Especially with the 2 pinion design. I haven't found even ONE person that said they regretted getting an ARB.

Many posts by Dynatrac also point to the ARB.

I even tried calling Eaton today. Got transferred twice to someones voice mail. I sent an email too asking if they new when/if they're releasing the updated 4 pinion design. I work in the IT field and think there website is not very well organized.

The ARB site is organized very well. I might call them just to see if I can get a knowledgeable person on the phone.

Definitely keep the responses coming. I still haven't decided, but leaning towards the ARB at this point.

How about a Yukon zip locker, it's air but cheaper than arb

While I see you are now leaning towards ARB, I sense you really want electric. I think I'd hold out until Eaton has a 4 pinion ELocker. It WILL happen, it's just a matter of when. Adding the front axle with the factory locker will provide a huge boost in capability.

If the ARB is installed properly, it is a superior locker to most anything out there.

Do NOT get the braided steel lines. PITA to fix. The rubber lines are simple to fix if you happen to trash one.

ARB customer service has always been excellent. I know Chris left there for AEV but Buddy may still be around. Very knowledgable folks. They should be able to direct you to a competent shop in your area.

Yes, it is a rover place, but Gordon at inland rovers in riverside is one of the most knowledgeable guys I know in your area. I've wheeled with him up into Canada. Hollar at him for some local advice.

Yeah, if they announced an official release of the 4 pinion, I'd probably get it. OBA would be nice, but I have a Viair 400P that's only a few months old, so didn't really intend to get it as my next mod.

I tried to call Eaton yesterday, but wasn't able to reach anyone in the locker dept. Didn't really appreciate that. I'll try again tomorrow.

Default pinion and electric locker

I had two pinion gear fails on 2008 dana 44 with electric locker in 2 years with picture perfect patterns, first time we used superior gears w ected locker, second time Yukon gears with Ected new and improve locker. Both times my pinion gear broke I had no kind of warning noises, just a big chunky noise ,chunk of pinion getting stuck in ring gear.Thank god I was less than a block away from home.By the way I have 4:56 gears, dana 30 up front with Detroit Tru Track works great no problems at all.Second fail same thing no warning just a chunk of pinion hitting ring gear on the way to my shop, removed cover there was the chunk with all its little buddies. Both pinions only lasted about a year or 14 months each.(by the way I was told Superior gears and Yukon are of the same origin Im not sure ).Im getting a air locker next ARB,Im not sure what cause the pinions from breaking and im going to do it all over again cause I cant afford a Dynatrac 60 arb locker.Any help from fellow jeep heads is appreciated before I order gears and arb locker.

If you want to do it once, get the ARB. Very positive ingage and disingage in any position(you can hear it!). Don't know how many time I've needed the E locker only to have the light blink at me instead. A small frame mounted compressor like the one that pumps up the air bags on my truck is all you need at first. An easy install and can be upgraded when funds are available. But then again the venders love it when we do things 2 & 3 times..
