Default lockers, do i need both?

Going to regear in a month or so. Can I get away with just one locke in the rear?

I cannot aford both. I'm thinking ARB air locker for the rear.

Help direct my thought process.

10 Wrangler 6 speed 2 door. Will have a 3.5" lift. Not sure if I will do 33s or 35s. Everyone is telling me 35s.

You'll be fine with rear only. But if you can swing it, scrounge up another $375 or so and install a Truetrac up front. Or pass on the ARB and get two TT's.

X2 on the true trac up front. I have it and love it. Works awesome in the snow and ice you get there in Denver. And go 35's

Another vote for TTs and 35s.

Default Yeah 35's

Forum members question: Hi I am wondering if there is a reason my turn signal wont work?
Forum members answer: Hi sorry to hear about your turn signal have you tried running 35's

Forum members question: Hi I am new here and was wondering what the difference between a rubicon and a sahara was?
Forum members answer: Hello and welcome to the forum as far as the difference between the 2 don't worry about it they both will fit 35's with a few mods.

Lol but seriously why does every question here lead to people telling people to get 35's? (not being rude just think it's funny, plus I am probably guilty of this as well)

So the answer is yes I run a ARB in the rear and open up front (oh and it's on 35's). I did this due to price and because I was and still am weiry of the dana 30 axles locked with 35's not saying it wouldn't work it is just what I did. The reason to go in the back is usually forward momentum is harder to achieve whilst climbing and incline plane. Translation it's harder to go up hill. So when you're going up hill there will be more weight on your back tires so why not add the traction device to the wheels with the most traction. Not to mention this is where everyone (well a lot of people's) strongest axle is.

If I had to choose I would do the locker in the rear. ARB is a great choice. And with a 3.5" lift you will probably want to go with 35's. If not stick with 2" to 2 1/2" of lift

I did the same exact thing. Regear'd to 4.88 and put an ARB in the rear, left the front open. I didn't put a locker in the front Dana 30 because I know that i'll be replacing it soon with a Dana 44 or ProRock 44 so I wanted to invest as little as possible in the dana 30.

I run some pretty tough trails all over the state and in Moab, and I've been able to do everything the guys with a locker in front and back can do. I've never said, "well if only I had a locker up front I could do that".

So if your plan is to eventually ditch the dana 30, then don't put a locker in it. If you're going to keep it, then lock it up!

My 2010 came with a limited-slip in the rear and it has been fine for me, have you checked your configuration? If you have limited-slip in the rear already, I would put the money in the front with a Truetrac and sleeve/gusset combination maybe later you can add chromoly axels when you go with 35's, and probably re gear to 4.88. This is the plan I have for my Jeep.

Good luck

I'll have to look at the TT. I have no intention of replacing the front axle. I just can't see myself needing a bigger one. At least not till I break this one in the middle of nowhere.

I have 3.21s. I bought the cheapest Jeep I could since I did not have any clue what I needed.

I am not sure what I will use for tires. I lifted a 350 with Fabtech 5.5" and ran 33" tires. It looked fine for me. I have the feeling when my lift is installed with my 31" tires it will look fine. When I burn these up, I will hold some 33s and 35s and then decide. Since everyone says I will go to 35s, I will not be surprised if they are correct.

That's why you invest as little as possible in the Dana 30. If you're running 35's and some of the tougher trails in our state, you might very well eventually break the D30. If you put a locker in the rear and leave the front open you'll be able to do just about anything. A locked axle is also more prone to breakage than an open axle. If you go ARB in the rear, you'll already have the compressor installed in case you upgrade your axle in the future and get a front ARB. Then all you'd have to do is wire up your new front one to your existing compressor. Having on-board air is pretty sweet too! That was my philosophy with my jeep anyway, and so far it has served me well.

I drove a TJ for a few days that had true-tracks, and I didn't like it. Sure it did great off-road, but around town it kinda sucked. Going around corners and such always felt like the locker was trying to kick in and limit turning radius. I love having a selectable locker. In my opinion, it's the best way to go.
