Only the Rubicon comes with lockers.

The sport base doesn't come with lockers. Rubicons do come with lockers, and as far as your gear swop you'll have to ask around at various transmission shops for what their labor charge is. But you can check out northridge4x4 and get a package deal on 4:56 gears and just pay the labor when you get them installed.

Lockers are not necessary however are very nice to have. You do not have lockers right now but I would recommend having them installed.

The ARB Air locker is the best locker on the market.

I beg to differ on the best, e lockers are better because you don't need air lines that harden and crack, or an extra air compressor for them to work. Just wire them up, much easier.

Fair enough. E-lockers are a much easier installation, however the ARB air locker is very strong and outperforms any other locker on the market. At least according to the ARB test rig video's. I will need to search for that video again.

Well really it depends on your purpose and budget. If you are open, don't use 4wd on the road and want to keep it cheap a lunchbox can be the best. If money is no object and you want the strongest but want selectable then ARB. A dedicated rock crawler would go spooled. No worries reliability but selectable could go cable. Even an LSD can have advantages if you deal with snow but some trail. A limited slip can also save your axel if you are rough on it.

I considered an ARB when I did my gears but it didn't make sense to spend the money to lock a stock d30. The 27 spline axel isn't ideal to lock so spending the money on something that would probably self destruct didn't make sense and I didn't have the cash to upgrade so I stuck with the LSD. An auto locker wouldn't work for me as I snowboard so again the LSD makes more sense.
