My thought would be go with the tires first learn to wheel it open front and rear. Once you get good like that then look at the lockers. But for mud I would look at only locking the rear so that way you can still turn. Plus a locker in the front on a D30 you need/should upgrade your axles and everything along with it. IMO.

Tires should always be priority #1, specially in the LA gumbo.

Like Backroadman said, learn what your tires can do first. Just don't get yourself too stuck in the process.

Thats i want is tires but i fear if i go to 36 or 37s than i am looking at having to have hydrualic steering or not i am asking. And also i thought lockers would aid with traction in mud more than tires not sure though. Although thats i was posted is to get everybody else opinions cause i am not sure and i will try not get to stuck but thats why i bought a jeep

Well, if you had not already bought new tires I'd say tires. But since you have already got new tires, and they do what you want, get lockers. When it's time for new tires then you can go bigger.

Start with the FAQ's !!

Get an idea of what the lift requirements will be when moving up to a 37" tire. Which components will you want? Which components will you have to have? Check into backspace and rubbing issues. Take a good look at your axles. How will you strengthen that little D30 to handle those tires when spinning through the mud? Are you planning to run 37's with your stock gears? Not likely, so look at your gearing options. (this is the time to decide on lockers. Have them installed together instead of paying that labor twice)

Do yourself a huge favor - take a step back, look at the big picture of not only what you want to accomplish, but what the best way to get there is...

you dont need hydrualic steering, if you do want to upgrade steering which most people dont need anyways, i would look into the steering assist systems but that can very very touchy steering on the road.

tires will take you further than lockers. one thing alot of people forget in mud is lockers are completely useless if you do not have traction first

someone said earlier, see what your lift is capable of. your lift may not even be able to handle 37s without other modifications to suspension or cutting. if you have 4.10 gears, it wont be too bad with 36s or 37s but if you have numericaly lower gears, then its just going to suck with bigger tires. i ran 37s on 4.10 for a bit first then upgraded gearing and lockers at the same time.

if you have below the 4.10 gearing, i would stick with the tires you have and invest in a winch and a pull pall or buddy(whatever its called) untill you can afford to buy tires, gears, and lockers about the same time. if possible its financially smarter to install gears and lockers at the same time

just take the time to scrimp and save untill you can afford it. i know it sucks cause we all get the "itch" but sometimes you should stop and think and wait.

this is my opinion, some people may agree or disagree, but its your money, your jeep, you do what you want. hope this helps
