Default LoD Mid-Width Installed - Couple of Questions

I installed my new LoD Mid-Width front bumper this weekend and I think it looks great! Also installed a Smittybilt XRC 10 Winch. I did the install solo, and the write-up on the LoD Shorty helped a lot. Took about 2.5 hours for everything, including un-crating the beast and installing the winch. And loosening up the bumper a couple of times because I forgot to do things :(

Couple of questions:
  • Lengthening the fog light wires - OK to splice in some 12G wire with crimp connectors to lenghten, or is there a better way?
  • Winch power - wired both positive and negative directly to battery post. Is it better to just go to ground on the negative side? The (weak) Smittybilt instructions seemed to say to go directly to the post.
  • The bar has mounts for two lights. Anyone have light recommendations? Easy to wire to run separate from the fogs?
  • Currently have license plate zip tied to the grill. Better location?
  • I mounted the winch controls on top of the spool. Any advantage to mounting over the motor?
  • Any tips on spooling in the synthetic cable so that it wraps nicely? (good reason to move the controls?)

I am sure I have more questions, but we can start there Here are a few pictures.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Ok first off you will want to solder and shrink wrzp thise wires.

The winch to the post is fine.

The extra lights are your preference I run hids, led is becoming big. Its easy to wire and set up make sure to add a relay if needed.

If you have a rollor fairlead there ar plates to attach to the fairleads.

The winch controls can be mounted anywhere you feel free.

Synthetic line can be spooled like wire rope once you use it it will not be like it was when you installed it.

1) like the person above solder and shrink wrap with a torch
2) post to post is what I did with my warn winch
3) I mounted Piaa lights and have been happy with them, but depends on the style you want and type of lighting. Very simple to wire in with a relay.
4) I mounted my plate on the skidplate by drilling holes into the skidplate. Just painted the drill holes then mounted to prevent rust.

There are very few options for mounting your plate to the Hawse fairlead. Roc Dog Fab makes a bracket, however I just made my own for about $10. I remember seeing another innovative home-made bracket on the forum, but don't recall which thread it is posted.

I mounted the controls over the motor just because I thought it would make the synth line easier to spool.

I don't have any helpful hints here, but I think that bumper ROCKS! It's the one I want. Good choice.

Thanks for the suggestions and compliments Solder and shrinkwrap sounds like a great solution. Also like those PIAA lights - will look into those.

These two companies make license plate brackets that connect to your fairlead.
