Is there a MT out there that will hold out for about 50,000 and work on a daily driver, or do I need to stick with a good all terrain? Not trying to be unreasonable, I'm just new to the MT scene (never had a set). I've been looking at the Firestone MT's, because I know they're supposed to wear well, and the tread is actually deeper than most of the other MT's available by about 2/32". The other thing I'm worried about is since moving to Southern IL I deal with a lot of ice. Hopefully after this winter I'll be moving North a couple of hours where it's snow again. Thoughts?

 

I don't think you are going to get 50K out of any MTs. I best I've gotten was 45 or so on a set of MTRs but they were pretty rough the last 15K. That was with a lot of rotating. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who mentions MT and daily driver in the same sentence. I think the normal expectation would be 35-40K with a lot of road miles.

i got almost 80K out of the trxus STS and put the trxus MT's on and am at 40K, am expecting to get about 60K out of them

Will have to say I love my Mickey Thompson ATZ's
They are very quiet and run smooth and great for weekends off road
I wasn't sure of the M/Ts I heard of most being soft
These are great tires and I use them as a daily driver,and they look great

 

I had a set of firestone destination mt's that lasted. They were a harder compound than a lot of them out there

 

I vote Trxxus M/T's. I'm on my second set now. they are a great tire. they wear very well (although I can't seem to keep a vehicle long enough to know exactly how many miles for the tires), they are the quiestest mud terrain i've ever heard, they track very well (even in 35" form), are very good off road, and best of all, especially if you're worried about winter driving, they are excellent on snow and ice. they have a lot of siping compared to most mud terrain. m/tr's and destination m/t's have zero siping which is just scary in winter conditions.

all that being said, 50K on a set of mud terrains is pushing it.

 

The BFG MT KM should give you 35-45k miles. I had a set of TrXus MT's and they wore out really fast (they were on a 3/4 ton truck, and not on a Jeep).

50k is a stretch for any MT tire.

 

Mud tire and long wearing usually aren't mentioned in the same sentence but, Alot of different brands you can realisticly expect to get 40-45,000. I have had BFG mt's and got 40, MTR's w 40 and a set of procomps MT's that had 45.

 

How do the ATZ's and the Firestones handle in snow/ice? Does harder compound equal abusive ride? I'm probably just looking at 33's.
