Default Looking for info on Ring and pinion install

Hi,
I have a 2010 JK Unlimited automatic on 33" tires on pro comp steelies. The wheels were off my 08' JK 6 speed, I didnt notice the gearing issue so much on that Jeep as I do on the new one. Im pretty sure my new one came with the 3.21 gears, and its a complete pig. I want to change the gears to get it moving well and maybe even tow some things in the future. I was to do the 5.13's in the front and rear. Here are my questions:

1. What parts do I need besides the 5.13 R&P for Dana 30 and one for Dana 44, Installation kits for both front and back? (I was told I will need new carriers, is this true and do I need them in the front and back?)

2. Can I re-gear my speedometer to read accurately while im in there?

3. What is the most widely used brand of R&P's for 5.13's?

4. What gear oil is best to use after the install?

5. Is there a DIY for the install for this? (I have read that the setting the pinion depth can be difficult, but I have built a few drag motors and transmission in my day for audi's and VW's, so I'd at least like to take a look at the install before paying someone)

6. Anyone know of a reputable shop not too far from Queens, New York? (Id be willing to take a drive for someone reputable and or a good price. If i choose to have someone do it)

I think that covers everything, I have done a bunch of searching on here and online, but Im still left wondering these few things. Sorry if I missed them in the search, If I did, maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

With 3.21's, you will want a new front carrier for the d30

Gears front and rear

Master install (master overhaul, whichever term you find). Regular install kits can be used, but the new bearings that come in the overhaul kit are good to have.

Yukon probably has the best reviews/feedback - but all 'JK' gears are made in the same factories overseas and reboxed. None are US made, so the brand probably doesn't matter so much.

Go out to the website of the AEV ProCal or Superchips Flashpaq. Both will re-calibrate, and both have some great extra functions. (there are a few others to look at also, but those two have the best reviews)

I don't blame ya, lots of these places charge outrageous rates. High Country has lots of local feedback on their high prices, but they are far from the 'only' option in Denver, just shop around. At least have a good shop in mind for if/when your DIY gear job has issues or you want a second opinion on the pattern...

$2100 is RIDICULOUS! I have been working on cars for years, I wouldnt charge near that much to pull a motor from a car rebuild it and put it back in. Thanks a lot for posting that write up Josh, I dont have time to look it over right now as we're closing in on new years over here and I have to get moving, but ill take a look this weekend. Everyone have a safe and happy new year!

No problem at all bud. I am still going to go over the install before deciding whether I want to do it myself. Tools arent a problem and I already own a press. I have rebuilt plenty of motors and transmissions in the past including a few audi quattro gearboxes. Im sure, this wouldnt be a problem, but I may choose to have someone do it for me if I can find a reputable shop near me that isnt charging an arm and a leg, as I dont have as much free time I used to. Ill be thinking it over before ordering the parts even. On the other hand, I just ordered the SC Flashpaq so I at least have that on hand to correct the gearing, tire size, and any other fun stuff I want to play with. After comparing that and the ProCal, I figured this was worth the extra money. Thanks everyone for the help, I will post in here updates as to what I decide and how it goes.

Is this a good deal on all the parts I would need to do this swap? 4x4groupbuy.com/store/yukon-dana-3044-gear-package-frontrear-install-kits-p-9421.html[/url]

Also, here is a copy of my window sticker, it says my option package has the 3.73 rear axle ratio. I assume this means that I wont need to change the front dana 30 carrier to swap in the 5.13's? Just making sure, thanks!

Check northridge before you order

And yes, with 3.73's you will not need a front carrier.

Thanks a lot! $549 is a great price for front and rear gears and overhaul kits. Are those gears similar quality to the Yukon brand? Or is it worth it to spend a little extra on the Yukons?

All gears for the jk are made in India, Korea, or China, reboxed for whomever here. So it really don't matter. Your paying more for a box.
