Default Looking into first lift for the JKU

I am looking into getting a lift for my JKU. I was thinking about 2-3 inches. I really want a good shock and was looking into the bilstein 5160 series. Anyone with experience have any thoughts in regard to this? Should I just go with an OME complete kit? If I go with the Bilstein 5160's what springs should I get? thanks

honestly, unless you do a lot of hard fast driving in the desert or on washboarded fire roads, i think you'd find that the regular 5100's do an excellent job of providing a good ride. i would recommend them with whatever kit you decided to go with. if you are looking at the OME long travel kit that northridge4x4 sells, it's a good setup and the shocks are nice too. i've run it and it works and rides well.

You have to get AEV, it's the only lift that works j/k. Asking about lifts is a pretty broad question because it's one part of a big concept. It would be best to sketch out what you want to do with your jeep, how big it's going to get, how much time offroad versus commuting, what's the biggest tire you will ever want, etc. then you look at lifts that match your needs. There's a good kit and lift amount for every different situation. Good luck

glad to see you have a sense of humor after all

well, for the most part, the OP wasn't asking about lifts but rather, about shocks and, he already had a kit in mind and was asking for some validation on it. assuming he's looking at the ome kit that northridge4x4 packages and sells, it's a solid kit and one that i have personally run. aside from tire size and budget, the discussion of lift kits really isn't as broad as some would suggest. in the end, tire size dictates lift height and, while lift height should dictate the components you should install, budget typically trumps that. well, that and brand attraction and/or loyalty.

The OME LT Kit from Northridge is the only set up I've run thus far, but I've been very happy with the ride and its performance.

The ome or teraflex are great choices.

I was in the same boat for a while as well. Not really on shocks springs, but on lifts in general. Sounds like you have a lift in mind already. I was caught between OME, tera, and Rock Krawler. I opted for the RK. I liked the warranty and they were having a sale at the time too. FOr shocks i went with the Bilstein 5100 as i havent heard anything bad about them yet. and i read they get rid of the squishy floppy feeling, if that makes sense. I prefer a firmer ride with a responsive shock and from what ive read they do that.
also havent heard a thing bad about the OME hd shocks

I am also running the Northridge OME LT kit and it has worked great for me. I am a total rookie and went with a suggestion from David at NR. At the time my JKU was my daily driver and I needed my rig to behave well on pavement. The ride is smooth and still allows me to be a weekend warrior at local trails.
