Default Looking for a new Tire carrier.

Just put some 35's on mu 07 JKU and have seen some comments about mounting your 35's on the stock carrier and it destroying your tailgate. Does this mean that I should purchase an aftermarket carrier the bears it's load on the bumper? Or can I get away with one that bolts directly to the tailgate but fits the tire better?

over time the weight of the tire will damage your tailgate. you can buy a new bumper and tire carrier or buy a tire carrier such as an or fab tire carrier. the rear bumper and tire carriers will be more money then the or fab tire carrier. many people are using the or fab tire carrier without any problems and is a much cheaper solution

Or fab is the answer. Otherwise you'll have a bent and squeaky tailgate with hinges that rattle all the time.

getting a swing out tire carrier that puts the weight onto your bumper/frame is what you'll want to do. the or-fab tire carrier that bolts up to the hinge mounts on your body is a good option as well if you don't want to get a new bumper.

AEV has a solution as well ...

AEV tire carrier and stock bumper. Has anyone done this yet?

So far I've liked my OR-Fab. Install is a little intimidating, but the outcome was ok.

Well, the pics aren't very good.

There is a bar that bolts to the carrier itself. You put the wheel on there, then put the rubber "spacer thing" and then the plate followed by the T bar that's threaded. A better picture would do wonders. The rubber piece is to keep your wheel from getting tore up. the bar the wheel rests on has holes for a lock. You could easily have something made that screws into the mount and has lugs. There's a thread somewhere that shows it.

the rim rests on the carrier tube (the pipe stickin out)and is held on with the t bar in the second pic with a huge rubber backed plate. i welded the tab on there for added security since i heard some guys were finding theirs loosened by some dipshits. i love it, no rattles and very strong.
