Default Looking for options

I have a 2010 jeep sahara unlimited and need new tires. I figured this is the perfect time to beef it up. As much as I'd like to add a lift kit I do not have the means at this time. I would like to add some all terrain tires with some more meat and will even consider new wheels. I like a simple matte black (black rock rim) type look. Where I am lost is with all of the offsets, backspacing, tires sizes, etc.

Everything on my jeep is stock right now and the wheels are 18in. I am considering buying new 16in or 17in wheels because they are more reasonable and, more importantly, there are so many more tire options. I prefer not to use spacers, but I do like the wide stance look. I also need to make sure the wheels don't rub when turning.

Can anyone who has been here help point me in the right direction and offer some guidelines?

Thanks all!

You can run 33x12.50 with no lift. Just make sure you have at least 4.25" back spacing on your rims. I would recommend a 17" wheel also.

Another vote for 17" wheels. Think long term and what your end goal is, otherwise you're going to end up replacing things that don't work with every progression.

Thanks for the quick replies....thinking the following tires and wheels. Tires slightly under 33x12.5 and the wheels are 17x8.

5 BFGOODRICH ALL TERAIN TIRES
SIZE: LT285/70/R17

That's a good tire and a good size. I run the same size. Just remember new rims you need the 4.25 backspacing. If you keep your stock rims you will need wheel spacers. Good luck and post pics when you are done.

so 4.5 bs won't work....It has to be 4.25? It doesn't seem like there are many options there.

I'm currently running 4.75in back spacing on my method race wheels 17x8.5 with a 315/70 17 (metric equivalent of of 35x12.50) mud terrains, and I have no issues with rubbing. Lift has no effect on sidewall rubbing with a 12.5in wide tire. 4.75 or lower is good to go for a 12.50.

Happy Jeeping.

The general recommendation for a 35x12.50 is a 4.5" backspace. Stock rims are said to have a 6.25" backspace. So a 4.5" moves the tires out 1.75" further than stock.

With a 33x12.50, a 5.0 backspace should be fine. Some folks are posting that a 5.5" works for them. Just depends on the build and the specific tires, since both height and width will vary quite a bit between mfg's.

If you see an offset number, find an online calculator and convert it to backspace. Much easier to use!! (offset uses the rim width in the calculation, so the same offset can correlate to very different backspace numbers depending on the rim...)
