Default Looking for practical rear bumper with carrier

Hey all,

Happy New Year!

I am looking to buy a new rear bumper with a spare tire carrier. Ideally want to keep it under/around $1k, but I want something well built that can also support other things besides the tire (jerry can, jack, etc). I don't need extra goodies like lights and stuff, and don't want something overbuilt or too heavy. Also, need to fit a 35" tire at the moment.

Any feedback is appreciated and I'd love to see pictures of what you have installed right now!

Thanks,
Eric

Well built and under a grand for a rear bumper with tire carrier doesn’t exist. You’re looking at around $1500 or so for a decent one.

What brands do you recommend I look at? I'll consider anything

If you had to have a bumper and tire carrier combo, I’d look into metalcloak. I’m a little biased though since I’m a bit of a fan boy. However, i don’t like to have my tire on the back of my Jeep. I would have ripped it off long ago if I did. I would suggest you look into a good bumper from metalcloak or poison spyder along with a stronger tailgate tire carrier like the metalcloak or teraflex carrier. Both carriers can mount attachments for other things. The bumper can run between $500-$700. The tire carrier will go for ~$600 or so.

You consider and hard wheeling? If so, maybe store your spare inside and do a spare tire delete. When driving around town, leave your spare at home.

Is there any reason why you want integrated into the bumper like that? Most folks prefer (having had one, I can vouch here) that having two mechanisms to get into the tailgate sucks. You want a gate mounted carrier with heavy duty hinges. There are a few decent options, you should be looking at $600 for one- no rugged ridge or barricade parts for that.

+1

I would much rather have a quality tailgate carrier that could be paired with any bumper of your choosing either immediately or further down the road to spread cost out.

I have been very happy with my Shrockworks bumper/tire carrier, works great, is heavy duty, has no problem with my 37. Has taken several hard hits coming off of ledges on trails with no issues at all. They have a rack, and some other accessories you can get for it, and hugs tightly to the rear of the Jeep, so you don't have to worry about getting hung up with it.

Runs about $1500. Takes a while to come in though as it is made to order. Made in the USA in Houston, TX.

Honestly it came down to the look for me, I think some of the integrated bumper/carriers look nice and honestly I thought that combining the two might allow me to get a slightly nicer product while not breaking the bank...I could easily have this backwards though lol
Also, I was worried about getting a carrier that won't properly support the tire and could damage hinges on the gate etc

The nice tailgate carriers are completely replacing those hinges with beefy versions capable of supporting the weight.

I went with a LOD full width bumper. They also sell a shorty size and I believe free shipping in the lower 48 states.
