Default Loud metallic 'SKRONK!' sound when offroading

When I go off road I sometimes get a loud, harsh metallic noise, very sharp and short like SKRONK! underneath. I even noticed it today while in 4-low and backing up and turning, but generally it happens every now and then when in 4-low and going over rough terrain at low speeds (nothing extreme like rock crawling though). I guess I'll take it back to the dealer as they installed the Mopar 2" lift, but any clues what this could be?

I had the lift installed almost from the start, so it may not necessarily be the cause - I just never off roaded the rig before the lift. It's a 2-door 2010 with only 3K miles. Does anybody else get a sound like this offloading?

Here's a lousy cell phone pic of my rig:

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. The trail where I tend to hear it is quite rough, so I've always been in 4lo to keep the speed down. I'll see if I can repro it in just 2wd somehow...

Do you have a lift, too? I am wondering if it is the springs rotating or moving...

It's got factory wheels, just the 32" ones. I don't think I have the wheels turned very far when the sound happens...

His is a metal on metal clunking sound. This is more high pitched, like when you loosen a tight nut, only much louder.

The backing plate behind the brake rotors loves to pick up rocks, which then make a high pitched metallic noise. If you can put up with it, usually will fix itself. I wouldnt describe it as a skronk, however.

It is a short, sharp, metallic screech, metal on metal?

Mine does that sometimes hitting something like a sudden bump, but only once in a while. Has happened since 09 after the engine conversion.

I have never pinpointed it. Everything is tight and the suspension works fine, steering is stable at 80 mph. I always figured it might be the exhaust system since that was changed, hangers or heat shields, shifting (jumping) on the bump. It is for sure metal against metal movement though.

My noise is not related to 4-lo, can happen in 2wd.
