ive done the gutter guard on my f350 and the jeep - the PRIMARY reason is to block rocks & road debris that can damage coolers...and yes ive had rocks puncture my a/c condenser.

imo - the holes in the expanded metal are too large & will still allow potentially damaging debris to pass thru to the coolers
imo - PLASTIC version of gutter guard may not provide significant strength to stop debris either.

additionally ill add - that in 10 years the coolers on my f350 have not a single cooling fin smashed or bent.

I was wheeling with a guy who had a stick flip up and spear straight through his radiator. I know the gutter guard would not have stopped it but the expanded/perforated metal would have even though it probably would have detached from the grill it would still have saved the radiator.
