LSD - Automatic?
Is the LSD automatic? Or do you need to do something (like to the brakes) to use it?
The reason I ask is because I have the rear LSD. So I emailed the organizer of a trail run because it requires 1 locker. I exceed all the other requirements, so emailed my specs to him.
His reply was: "limited slip will work in place of a locker with proper application of the brake."
So I can go on the run, but now am wondering how to properly apply the brake?

Limited slip normally doesn't require application of the brakes, but light application can enhance the feature on some vehicles.
Your JK also has "brake-lock-differential" on both axles, which means the traction control will automatically apply the brake on the spinning wheel.

It wouldn't do much for those whose e-brakes don't work for some reason, which seems to be a lot of them on this forum.
But the ideas is, it adds some drag to the spinning wheel, which will increase the amount of torque applied to the other wheel.

(not a hijack)
Brake lock different always works when in 4h or lo, its the only program you can't turn off unless you cut the ABS wire. Its great, amazing actually. To use it, don't take you foot of the gas, stay calm and slowly press into it.. and the ebrake trick will also help to slow you down as you gas into it....

Cool thanks! I'll try that next time I can't get up an obstacle.
Rings a bell -- I was at Pilot Rock (Silverwood area, CA) on one of the steep hills and and couldn't get over one part. Someone told me to pull up 2 clicks on the e-brake. Tried it and got over that part. Now I know why!

I have the factory LSD in my 2011. It's definitely helped me out on the trails and you'll never notice it on the street. I like mine, but I do hear they wear out really fast. When the time comes to replace mine I'll probably just put in a true locker.
