I really don't see you needing air bumps in Chicago and the salt is not going to be your friend. They might help though with the monster pot holes there and the fact the state has no money to fix the roads. At least they took the cap off the property taxes up there and all those Dems can start paying their fair share when they double the taxes to pay for the unfunded pensions they have racked up.

Haha Dirtman, it seems you know chicago a little too well lol. U know they trying to de-unionize everything and a lot of people are going to suffer because of illinois's at will work policies.

Speaking of salt, thats why i dont want coilovers because i dont think it will hold up. Do you feel kings or foxes or whatever will do well in corrosive salt conditions? I see all these beautiful jeep setups and feel jealous coz i dont think it will hold to the salt conditions.

I am thinking of air bumps with reservoir dampening shocks because i like taking the jeep to silverlake, going fast on trails and dirt roads at ozarks and occasional rock crawling.

I am from Champaign and Chicago is a big reason why I now live in Nevada. I was finally able to escape in 2013. The unions and the government in Illinois is the problem not the non union movement. Companies just can not be competitive in a highly regulated state that has its rules dictated to them by unions that are only looking out for the people running the unions. The politicians are the same way, they tax everything there but pensions? Why? Because the politicians and union workers all have sweet pensions paid for by the people that actually make the state work and provide jobs. I decided to leave Illinois when I complained to the tax assessor that if he kept raising my taxes at the rates I was paying he was going to tax me out of my house and he looked at me and said "I don't care". He maid $80k sitting on his ass while my taxes went from $2300 in 2000 to $7000 in 2007. Yep time to move. Rant over.

I ran King coil overs for a couple years but I kept my jeep clean and I had a garage . It was not a daily driver. They should hold up fine if you are willing to take care of them. You could go with one of the internal bypass coil over set ups and not have to worry about bump stops and they would provide you will good performance for Silver Lake's sand dunes and for places like badlands which has some pretty good dunes and other trails where you can get on it a bit.
Good luck with the jeep.

Live in Texas here. Rarely they may lay sand but no salt. Freedom to work state too.

Yeah property taxes in some counties are out of control. I was was paying around 7k on a $220k house because of all the new schools and rapid development that was going in the county. I hear you with the crooked politicians/politics, insane amount of murders, and high state taxes its a pain in the ass to survive here.

Anyways dirtman, appreciate the advice and i love badlands and silverlake and all the places to wheel in michigan. I am not famaliar with coilover setups but what are the "internal bypass" coilover setups you are referring to? I would like to see pictures of the setups.

I appreciate the responses!

Here is a link to the IBP shock. No need for air bumps with these as they are built in and they offer speed sensitive adjustment. They are pricey but simplify set up and when compared to adding an air bump to coil over they are about the same cost.
