Default Michelin 9.00R16

Anyone considering this tire??? I ran a set of 11.00R16 (38x11) on an Excursion for years and a set of 8.25R16 (34x9) on a diesel Land Cruiser. They self clean, balance well and are cheap if you buy surplus.

I have an '08 Yellow 4dr Rubi on order. The 9.00R16 (36x10) XLs are waiting...

Where are you getting these tires at? I looked into getting some 8.25r16 XZL's (34x9x16) and all the michelin places around Knoxville, TN were clueless.

Default I would like to know as well

I read about them on another board I think in a Land Rover D90 and they sounded like something worth looking into but, after about on google I didn't find to much.

I would like to know as well

I would be cautious about using these tires. I believe that they are tube type and they weight a ton. I have known some people that have used these and the larger ones and the weight becomes an issue. The lower your unsprung weight the better the tire can react to conditions on the road. The heaver the tire wheel package the greater the unsprung weight. At MAR a couple of years ago a guy had this type of set up on a Discovery 2. The whole wheel assembly fell off on the trail. Depending upon your set up the front end may not handle the weight very well. My 2 cents.

The xzl's are tubeless, also they are no heavier than a comparble size (35 inch) bfg or toyo mt style tire. Their big advantage is the fact they are only 9-10 inches wide so you can run them on stock rims with no wheel spacers. Rotational mass problems aside running wheels with offsets much different than oem is going to prematurely wear out front wheel bearings and ball joints before heavier tires will. If I can't get my hands on some 8.25r16's I will probably run 255/85r16 bfg mt tires they are 33.3 inches tall and will fit stock rims with no wheel spacers needed. Either way i am going to have to find some steel or aluminium 16 inch rims somewhere.

The all-terrain radial for tactical wheeled vehicles, engineered to offer worldwide mobility and long tread life.

Size 9.00R16

Load Range D

Loaded Radius (in) 16.9

Overall Diameter (in) 36.4

Overall Width (in) 9.9

Approved 6.00G

Rims (in) 6.50H

Min Dual Spacing (in) n/a

Revs per mile 575

Tread Depth (32nds) 20

Max Speed mph 62

I would seriously reconsider having a tire that max's out at 62mph
Unless u trailer ur rig to the trail these tires are not truly meant for a jeep.
Or u plan on deploying with ur jeep to a place that is in turmoil somewhere around the world.

I have had the tires on army vehicles i have used while servicing in the Canadian armed forces they are not that great of a tire and worse on greasy wet roads and bad on winter conditions tread blocks are large with little give. long wear life cause the durometer of the rubber compound is hard.

my 2cents
but ya to have the same tire used on military vehicles does have a cool factor attached.

Have you looked at the super swampers in the 35X10.50-16?

Default Here is the skinny...

I imported a diesel land cruiser (sorry Jeep curse word) and the 8.25R16 XZLs were on it. Now I run the 255/85R16 BFGs; also a good choice. The end of this month I am going to pick up a diesel D-90 and it too has the 8.25R16 XZLs.

The Michelin X series (X,XL XML XCL, XZL) are all lubeless and the road speed recommendations are just that. I put 225,000 miles on my diesel Excursion with the 11.00R16 tires and I drove 80 MPH on the highway often. I NEVER USED MORE THAT 8 OZ TO BALANCE AN 11.00R16 (38" tire)!!!!!!

The 8.25R16 are VERY hard to find. If someone is dying for a set, I have five available.
