Modified Jeeps and you Car Insurance Coverage
What does everyone use to insure their Jeep? Are you paying more to get coverage on your aftermarket parts? My concern is that someone could steal or crash into my jeep and the insurance call it a complete loss. Can I get coverage for all that I've put on it? I have a lot of money that I've sacrificed over the last couple years, put into my rig and I don't want to be left with a stock jeep if insurance didn't cover the custom work.
I don't mind paying a little extra to cover it, but has anyone had to deal with this first hand?
It's a little unnerving and I want to be sure I have my best foot forward.

Depends on the company. Some offer a few thousand toward additions as part of the policy, some will let you buy extra coverage, and some won't. Just be sure to keep all of your receipts, and pics of the parts installed on the jeep wouldn't hurt.
When I bought my Jeep my agent asked that question. "How much are you putting in your Jeep? We may need to review the policy.".
I told him I was not planning to go wild and nothing extra needed. He looked at me with that "yeah...right" face.
Well... after a couple years now I think need to call him.
Anyway. My insurance company adds to the premium based on what I add. They calculate the replacement value.

Most stock parts cost more then aftermarket so bumpers , suspension and maybe wheels will work out
But extra lights , winch , armor things that don't come on stock you will lose out on if you don't add it

Check with your insurance agent because different states and companies have different requirements. Typically there will be some small allowance for coverage--$1000 is supposed to be pretty common. USAA, if you qualify, covers $5000. I've read on JKF from people who have purchased it that extra coverage isn't cheap because of the way it's calculated (no depreciation)--expect to pay much higher premium if you have very much in mods and decide to cover all of it.
Pay about $50 per six months for $5k in protection for 'accessories' from Allstate here in Texas. I send copies of receipts to my agent. Not sure about coverage while wheeling but I'm more worried about getting hit by drivers on the road.

I doubt any insurance company has that exact restriction--too many people with large tracts of land who expect coverage for their family and guests. Farmers, ranchers, etc. But, I'm certain policies have vague words about competitions and such that might be construed as not covering you if you roll your Jeep while showing off at Imperial Sand Dunes. Besides, in places like Colorado the Jeep trails ***are*** public roads, as are forest service roads and county roads all over the country. Now, a private off-road park? Not sure. May vary by insurer.
I had my truck broke into (traded it for the jeep). They took my in dash screen and my emergency lighting that I had on the front window and few other things in there. My insurance covered the radio and my light. Because it was attached the truck. Which made it part of the truck at that point. For the lose item I had in the they didn't cover. Because they claim that they can be removed from vehicle so they don't get stolen.
They told me when i called that if the adjuster could tell, it was in there they would cover it.

LOL, just so happens that my insurance policy is coming up for renewal and has been rewritten (USAA). Here's some words from my policy (not yours--yours may be totally different):
Again, let me emphasize: Your policy may read differently. Different states (and countries) have different requirements. Much of what you just read above has been added with this policy change--they've been warning us for about 3 years now that they were going to change the words about mods (which were previously unlimited), and they have now done so.
