Just checking back in after 5 months of pretty decent use. This little modification is holding up well for me with no further issues. Have not seen any signs that there's too much stress on the welds and it's been put through the ringer pretty good. This isn't an issue many are likely to run across, but updating the post just in case it's useful to someone somewhere along the line.
