Default Modify and keep the crush cans?

I'm installing an AEV bumper and the instructions call for cutting out the factory crush cans and integrating them into the new bumper. Is this necessary, or can I get away without having crush cans in the bumper? The instructions claim the crush cans are "tuned" to my vehicle, but there doesn't seem to be anything electronic or technical about them. Anyone have an opinion on whether or not I can skip this?

First I ever heard of tuned crushed cans. I wonder what key they're tuned to? Sounds like a crock to me.

C'mon Redneck. You like me are old enough to remember when the 5mph bumper laws came into effect. The crush cans are supposedly the only things that would get damaged in a 5mph collision and are set up according to the vehicles weight and the inertia it would impact with at 5mph.

That aside, I throw the phuckas out.

The UK models dont have the crush can fitted and I left the caps off too as it improves the approach angle.
A few pics in this thread.......... I just put some 6mm short stainless screws in the mounting holes.

Yeah, I know....but "tuned" to the Jeep? That sounds ridiculous.

I hear ya. The install manual made it sound like it was a highly technical piece of equipment that worked with the airbags. I'm probably going to leave them off.

The crush can's only function is to satisfy the 5mph bumper requirement, which Europe doesn't have.
Legal for an owner to remove, but may not be for a commercial outfit to remove.

Makes sense. Thanks for the input. I feel better about dumping it.
