Default Modifying (Hacking it) 2010 JK Catalytic Converter

Has anyone hollowed out their catalytic converter? I have a 2010 JK 2 Dr 3.8L Engine.

Will it make a difference in horsepower or sound?

1) Horsepower: you will lose a couple at the bottom end and gain maybe 1/2 to 1 at the top end <best case>
2) Sound: It will sound like a grumpy old wizard taking a supercharged sh** mixed in with a lawnmower that hasn't been oiled.
3) You'll probably throw a few O2 codes
4) You're poisoning kittens, baby eagles, and the environment

If you want to mess with your cat, I guess you could throw some money at 2 high flow cats and hope they don't throw codes...You're not gaining any hp except at the extreme high end, which the JK rarely reaches.

chopping out the cats worked pre obd2...

now hacking out the cats will do nothing but drop fuel economy and make it run like shit at idle especially.

if you had a 85 or older straight from header out is the way to go off road but we all know how cops are and that loud beast running down the neighborhood

When you get a high flow FI system, maybe then it could be a consideration.
Backseats? what is that?

Sheesh in Cali if you get caught all the tree huggers will converge upon you and hug the life right out of you lol. Pulling a cat on an engine that CAN rev like say a rotary or a forced induction engine that can turn rpm's quickly makes a difference (read Vtec.) the 3.8 just is not a rev maker ... period. Maybee with a knifed and balanced crank and a ported and polished head, intake plenum along with a gear drive setup for the cam and titanium valve springs and valves along with o-ringed heads and lowered compression and compound turbos .... bah just get a 6.1

Not to mention the smell, and the potential fines or inability to pass inspection. Even if you did get 5hp(which you won't), would it be worth it to you?

The tree hugging statement goes without saying, hence the op thread. But, thanks guys this cleared up my random question.
