Default Modifying a JK for a Fuel Door Release System?

Hey gang, I'm a first time owner of a JK and would like to know if anyone has ever attempted to perform any mod that would essentially replace the gas cap cover with one that is closed and can only be opened from an opener lever in the cab. I figured someone out there has been crafty enough to take an existing fuel door release system from a different vehicle and modify it to fit the Jeep. This would provide an extra bit of security and hopefully eliminate the temptation of a passerby tampering with the gas cap and/or gas.

And feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Nick

I'm sure it has been done before somewhere but no write-ups on here, yet.
It looks like you are the lucky one and get to do it here first. Please be sure to take lots of detailed pics and explain everything very well so we can follow your lead. Oh and list part numbers and where you got them from. Thanks. This is gonna be awesome!

Or you can just get a locking gas cap?

Buy a locking gas cap and a MOPAR fuel cover to cover up the ugly locking cap. Would be a heck of a lot less hassel.

Locking gas cap $15
Fuel cover $89

If security is your main concern, then go with the locking cap. The release lever will not offer much security when you have the doors off.
