Default Mopar CAI

Just wondering if anyone knows much about the Mopar CAI's. Now that i've got my JK looking the way I want its time for some performance mods. I've read just about every thread on here about CAI's and i'm pretty much set on getting the Mopar mostly because I bought the extended warranty when I bought the jeep so aftermarket isnt really an option for me if I want to maintain that. My jeep is mainly my daily driver, I off road a bit but not in mud or water, usually putt around on trails and climb big hills. I can always reinstall the stock box and filter if I plan on getting wet.

I installed the Mopar CAI this fall. I really like it as it sounds great and it improved my throttle response. While I did choose the Mopar branded CAI just to throw the guys at the dealership a bone, in reality it is an AEM CAI with Mopar labels. Either way, adding a CAI of any brand will not hurt your Extended Warranty, so feel free to choose the one you want.

Here is a previous thread with CAI poll. You can see a picture of my Mopar CAI in this thread. I'm not sure if this url to the thread will work or not, I'm new to this too!

I am contemplating getting the Mopar CAI as it can be purchased for a pretty good deal and so far reviews are pretty decent for it. I am just a little worried about getting water in it... Is it that much easier to suck in water with a CAI?

The "Mopar" CAI is made by AEM and they will not warranty any damage that it's responsible for, because even though it may be labled "Mopar", it is an aftermarket part.

It's always been that way. Remember the old "Purple" line of camshafts for the B, RB and A engines? Those were all made by Crane. The new "Mopar" lift kits are made by Rubicon Express. I don't know how it's done now....cause I've been outta the loop a while, but T-tops and sunroofs were NOT factory items. The factory ain't gonna be stupid enough to cut holes in the roof. At least they didn't used to be. Those cool T-tops on the Bandit in Smokey and the Bandit? AFTERMARKET!!! Yup, GM farmed ALL that stuff out. EVERY bit of it. Of course, that's a touch different, since it WAS delivered to the lot like that, so the factory warranty DID have to cover it. But aftermarket mods like CAIs? Forget it. I'll give you one more piece of advice. If I were you, and I thought I was gonna go through any water at ALL....I mean the LEAST little bit, I'd leave the stock air box on.

The most water I see is on the highway when it's raining lol. I'm not much for crawling through lakes and mud with my jeep, I play it safe and stick to dry trails and climbing hills.

Well, there have been some on here who've claimed to have hydrolocked their engine going through very shallow water. Seems to be all in how you hit the water. It doesn't take much at all to do it. I guess you can tell I'm not a big fan of CAIs. LOL I just don't think there is one on the market that will really offer a good "bang for the buck". Some folks like um for the cool sound they make. Some actually say they got a little power increase. A little. I don't know about you, but for 300 bucks, I want more than a little. It's my opinion that you'd be happier spending your money somewhere eles.....but hay, you know what? I'm not you and it ain't my Jeep. If you want a CAI, jump on it. I will say this....I think there are better ones out there than what you're lookin at, though. That True Flow XDI thing I think it is. That's supposed to be a good one......supposed to be. Good luck!

I'm not big on them either because of the chance it will suck in water. I think im going to forget about the CAI for now anyway, just called a couple of dealers in the city and they gave me prices of $588 and $565, my sister works at a dealership in another province and could get me 40% off but im still gonna be looking at almost $400. I wanted one primarily because I heard the throttle is a little more responsive as it increases low end HP and torque which we all know these vehicles seriously lack. Improved fuel economy and a cool grumble/whistle would have been a bonus too haha. Any idea's for gaining low end power are welcome! Thanks
