Default Mounting plates???

Can you use any kind of mounting plate (providing it has the same bolt pattern as your winch) for any winch or do you have to stick to buying a mounting plate from the same manufacturer as your winch? I'm asking because I don't want to buy an aftermarket winch bumper for the JK but I do find that Warn asking close to $300 for a mounting plate for their winches is a little preposterous. I was thinking of getting either a Milemarker or Ramsey electrical winch.

All winchs do not mount exactly the same, but generally all you might need to do is drill a couple hole for the winch.
