Default Moving from 20's to 17's - Need recommendations on what will work...

I'm buying a '07 Rubicon on Friday. It currently has some 20" XD addicts with 35" Toyo MT's. I'd like to get back to a 17" wheel and 37" tire so I can wheel it. I've been looking at either buying a set of stock Rubicon wheels(17x7.5) or possibly the AEV Pintler(17x8.5) wheels.

Here are my questions:
1) With the stock Rubicon wheels, can I run a 37x12.5x17 or 37x13.5x17 tire? What spacers are required to keep the tires flush with the stock fender flares? How safe are the spacers for a Jeep driven 85% on the highway and 15% in the woods?
2) Are any spacers needed on the Pintler wheels to run the 12.5" or 13.5" wide tires? Do they have the correct offset to keep the tires flush with the fenders?

Apologies if this is an ignorant question. I'm brand new to the world of JK's.

Todd

Spacers are fine but if you have the money get the pintlers. Im running thr RR wheels and I think the offset if 4.5. Im running an 11.5 wide tire and the tread is under the fender but not the sidewall. Your tires will probably stick out an inch or so with any combo at that width.

you can run stock rims or aev pintlers but you will need spacers for 37's. I had pintlers and 37x1250's and they rubbed the shock reservoir in the front and sway bar links in the rear, slapped on some spacers and i was good to go.

Was it rubbing during normal street driving or when flexing off-road?

Any pictures you can post of the Pintlers with 37's?

Thanks,
Todd

only rubbed in the front offroad and and in the rear during normal driving, had to run shorter end links until i got the spacers (limited flex).

You will not get a 13.5 to fit on a stock rim, some places won't mount the 12.5 on them. With spacers your sidewall will be outside a stock flare with a 12.5. The pintlers can run the 13.5 without spacers and will also be outside the stock flare. I've run spacers for over 30k miles ( on and off road) without any issues, I prefer the stock wheel look over most aftermarket, but the pintlers are one I would consider. The proper back spacing and wider wheel would be the better choice

Thanks for the responses. I also prefer the stock Rubicon wheel just since it is such a clean/simple design... Sounds like I"m good to go with a 37x12.5 tire but, not the 13.5" version. What spacers would I need? I'm assuming the SpiderTrax 1.5" on all 4 wheels, correct?

Thanks,
Todd
