I've managed a ~2MPG improvement since the K&N Drop in.

After all, if the engine is getting more air/fuel than you want, you reduce the flow by closing the throttle a little.
Exactly!

Wrap a towel around your head and see if it's harder to breath. Same thing with a dirty air filter, it makes the engine work harder and after all an engine is just an air pump.

A performance filter makes it easier for your engine to breath. It increases pressure through the intake. It leaves the intake stroke to do less work pulling in a volume of air at WOT.

Performance and efficiency gains, modest but measurable.

Not worth it....there is so much bs about air filters its crazy. Just google search. There are tons of actual tests and dynos that have been done regarding air filters in general. Ill say there is a huge misconception about it but let you actually decide.

If someone says I gained 2mpg, cool, prove it.

It says it on the dash....lol....

I calculated by hand & got 1.5 so guess there is something there. When your roving real high no your not going to get any better mileage but driving normal I went from 12 in town to 13.5 so there is some kind of gain

OK, so I'll find less bs about it if I do a google search?

When you run in closed loop there isn't going to be much if any difference in mpg. Performance gains are going to be minimal as well.

In open loop it's a different story and you can post a difference in both performance and mpg. Not much, less than 5% certainly, but let me set the parameters of the test and I'll get the results you want to see.

In open loop, and on our JKs, what would be defined as heavy acceleration with a throttle percentage above 75%, as a safety mechanism data from the O2 sensors aren't read and the fuel mixture fattens up. In this case, with a table based fuel trim and a rich fuel mixture, more air means more power and greater efficiency. Doesn't make any difference at all with cruise speeds and closed loop with the O2 sensors being fully in play.
