Nope. It used to be years ago but we got out of control with the mods and it's only used for racing now. We really miss the trail riding, that's why we are looking at the JK. Our little S-10 Blazer isn't up to it. We were looking at the new FJ but the top doesn't come off.

I'm beginning to get concerned about the milage taking a huge dive with bigger tires on the JK. Our long bed, crew cab, 1-ton Dually Duramax with a 11.5' cabover camper pulling the race rig on our trailer gets 10mpg. Seems that the JK with bigger tires should do better than that:confused: . Have you heard anything about engine programers, intakes, exhaust mods that should help out?

Honestly, I wouldn't think the MPG on the JK wouldn't drop that much even with 35" tires. So long as you are geared correctly, have a 6-speed and keep the lead off the gas pedal, I would think you'd still get an average 15 MPG or more. Most of bad MPG on a Jeep can be traced back to how you drive it. If you keep it running in the mid to low 2,000 RPM range across the board, you should do quite well. Most of the guys that get low MPG tend to drive too fast or throttle it off the line a lot (3,000+ RPM). I'm sure there will be plenty of intakes (AEM is testing one out now), exhausts, headers etc that'll come out very soon and I'm sure they might help out a bit too

Good to hear you say you would expect 15mpg average. Makes me feel better. I save the hot dogging for the track.
I guess the 3.8 has been around for a while. From what I can find it really hasn't been in many things that most people would be interested in "enhancements" to the performance for. But it would be nice to know if there are things out there now for the current applications, just to know what potential the 3.8 has without internal changes.

Maybe this is the wrong thread to talk about the 3.8 but all these things are related: Lifts, bigger tires, MPG, engine performance, gears, transmission choices. Is there a spot that brings all this together in one thread so we don't have to jump to each topic individually? A spot for what combination is working for folks. Maybe it's too early to know that stuff yet. Gee, can you tell I'm excited about the possibilities?

Naw, this is exactly the thread to be talking about things like this. It's all releated anyway just as you've pointed out

Default i get average 18 mgp 1997 with 31"

I have a stock TJ with 31x10.5x15 BFG AT .
No lift: no gear change...it gets about 18mpg city highway combined.
it is a bit of dog on the highway but it is cheap to run.

I like the look of a 3" lift and will do at least 33" 12.5 X16 and maybe a 35" on my next purchase of a JK.
I will look foward to hearing about JK real world MGG.

Spudracer (are you sure you aren't from Idaho? ) - Thanks. A few more shots of the engine on the dyno and stuffed into "The Dawg" and then I'll quit hijaking this thread about our FJ. The engine is a 540c.i. big block dyno'd at 830hp and 735ft.lbs. of torque. My Avatar shows it pulling a wheel stand at one of our races. You can see that we really can't use it any more for crawling around on trails like we used to. The JK will let us get back out there and take our dogs with us!

My wife's 14 Sahara has 3.73 gears and gets almost 20MPG
It's stock except for the stubby bumper (backed into it with my Jeep)
