No matter who you buy from, if you're questioning the life left in your front driveshaft it's time to just do it. The front driveshaft in a JK is a weak link. If it starts to go, just replace it.

Your boot is torn, it will end up looking like the one in post 6. (post 1 isn't torn, yet, seems to just have a little excess grease seeping out...)

All the grease will get slung out, which could indeed cause the joint to dry out and start making noise. Maybe you could put the front end on stands and have someone spin a tire while you lay under it and watch/listen to verify that the clicking is coming from that joint, not somewhere else?

Do you guys think it's time to buy a new driveshaft ? lol I'm just kidding!

My real situation, I'm considering changing out my axles and wondering if I should buy the teraflex rzeppa cv kit or just get a new driveshaft. I'm taking a off-road trip April 30th with a Jeep club and don't want to be in a bind. Any guidance or past experience would be greatly appreciated.

The Teraflex kit is a nice inexpensive solution to the issue if you don't wheel much. If you take your rig off road you're better off just getting an aftermarket shaft and losing some of the bulkiness of that factory DS, IMO.

I don't wheel very often and is my DD. I will be doing more wheeling trips this year but not sure if it's worth the extra $400-$500. But I have always upgraded when parts go out.

Might be a stupid question but can you purchase and aftermarket driveshaft that would bolt up to my factory axle and potentially bolt up to an aftermarket axle?

If you don't have too much lift or any exhaust clearance issues then the teraflex joint may be a good choice

A factory front 1310 Adams is only $427 at Northridge (after forum discount).....and I've seen em down around $369 on a super special before, so they definitely aren't an EXTRA $400-$500. You can also get one that bolts right up to the factory pinion flange on your axle. You'd replace the yoke on the TC side, but that's not a big deal. You should also check into a local DS shop making one for you. It might be cheaper than you imagine.

Although I've only gotten a quote from one local shop, it too was high. I was quoted $550 installed. So that's about $100 or so more than going with one of the big brands and doing it myself. However, the fact that I can take it right back to them if there are any balance issues or anything else may make it worth it.
