Default Superchips on JK Rubi 08 - No calibration supported!!!

Guys,

I guess I'm just venting, but here it is:

I just bought a superchips flashpaq to install it in my 2008 JK rubi, connected it to my computer, registered and updated the device.

Got to the vehicle, connected it, but after the initial setup (copying the stock configuration) the screen just went blank on me.

I let it be for 20 mins and after no response, I unplugged it and plugged it back in. When going to the advanced tunning I began to follow the instructions, just to be surprised by a message of ' Vehicle calibration not on file' and instructing me to connect to the internet and update the device.

I did that again, and I got the following message:

'The calibration for your vehicle is not currently supported. Information about your vehicle has been sent to our engineers for analysis and you will be notified via e-mail when a calibration is available for your vehicle.- You may unplug your Programmer'

After paying USD $379.99 I really expected something else. I have to say that I'm completely dissapointed.

Any guesses? I've written to superchips and I'm awaiting answers, but JK-Forum is always quicker that anybody else. Thoughs? Comments? Someone on superchips to contact?

Thanks again!

Hans

Who did you buy it from? Have you tried contacting them for support? have you tried the flashpaq site and read through the support section?

Don't panic. That's pretty common. Read the instructions, I think it goes into more detail. If not there is a thread here where the rep explains it pretty well. I'm on mobile, or I'd find it for you. It'll be about 2 business days and they'll have a custom tune for you. It is very worth the wait. I'm not plannin on regearing until I go 37s now.

Read this post from Scott at Superchips. It pretty much explains the whole situation with vehicle calibrations.

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...50#post1078350

The good news is they already have your stock vehicle information uploaded on their server. That is the first step in them being able to create a new vehicle calibration. I would still cal their tech support with the serial number from your Flashpaq in hand to make sure that the upload was all in order. I usually speak to Ron Rapp when I have any issues, and once confirming your vehicle profile is in tact it will be sent to the engineers and when they are finished to the QA guys.

From what I've seen with new users you are the first to get a vehicle calibration error in a few weeks. What this means is there are very few vehicles that won't have calibrations found, while out of the gate a couple months ago it seemed as if it was almost every other one.

So take some pleasure in your disappointment over the next day or two with the altruistic process you need to endure so the next guy doesn't. What you end up with in the end is well worth the wait as you have a tuner that is set up for your vehicle, the options you have and whatever Chrysler used to put it all together.

Excellent advise guys and thanks a lot for your reponses!

It seems like I had misplaced a small booklet explaining precisely what you guys are saying. I though that I had just trown $380 bucks to the garbage.

But its just like JPop says, it is not that you won't get any tunning, but rather that the Superchips guys have to work on it a little bit.

I just got off the phone with Al Fowh at Superchips and he mentioned exactly what you just said. I should wait for a couple of days and expect the file to be ready. They were really helpful in explaining what it took for the tunning to be done, and I don't mind the wait...

I'll keep you posted on the results from the butt dyno!!!

Thanks a lot for all of your help,

That's good news and knowing how anxious we all get when getting some new little goody and then being told we have to wait a couple days before we get to use it, it's hard to mask that disappointment. I'm sure you'll enjoy the product and hopefully you can make it through the next couple days.

Mine did the same thing, however all I had to do was read the book, and it told me to do an update via the internet. 10 minutes later it was updated and I was changing settings. Not a big deal. Hope yours goes well......

I'm excited to purchase the programmer, as I think it's going to be a quality unit. Not ready for it yet, so I'm glad to see Superchips is making progress with their initial bugs.

Every kind of custom tune, programmer, what-have-you acts like this when it first hits the market... I'm glad that Superchips is living up to the great customer service they've always had and when it's time, I'll be glad to give them my $400.

As long as I see a difference.

I certainly am not aware of any bugs, just not a specific profile for all the hundreds if not thousands of different vehicle profiles this programmer supports. So 6 months from now you could buy the Flashpaq, plug it in and it still doesn't support your vehicle. A few days later or possibly sooner it does after the SC engineers do their work. Same story if you bought it today.

What you'll miss in the interim is better performance, potentially better gas mileage, corrected speedometer for oversize tires or gear changes, data acquisition and a host of other features.

To date I am unaware of anyone who has bricked their JK or had any major issue outside of waiting a couple days for a calibration file. I have yet to hear anyone that has said they didn't notice a performance bump and there are a large number of people who are making some fairly significant gas mileage claims. I don't think you can say that about the competitive products, and as a former owner of one I smile every time I get the kick in the pants torque bump from the tow setting I'm running.

Anyway, my pain meter was certainly pegged when I had to wait a whole day to get a new vehicle calibration file when my speedometer didn't work out of the gate. Fortunately I was able to contain my misery by mashing the throttle a couple times and my JK had more power despite the speedometer telling me I was standing still.

I've seen you advertising and supporting this thing for a few months on here now... you're a hell of a salesman.

Have a good friend in town here who is an authorized Superchips dealer and installer. Owner of The Mustang Shop in Calgary, to be exact. He has been using their custom tuning program for Fords for years now, and has become quite the 'tuner'. He's attained huge gains via dyno for customers who already had a 'chip'. The numbers speak for themselves.

I will be purchasing my programmer through him and already have a price on it. Very competitive I might add. They sure have come a long way in both quality and sales compared to when I used to install their EPROMs for friends many years ago.

There will come a time though, inevitably, that you'll be able to plug it in and not have to update it unless a NEW update is available. Not just for your vehicle combination specifically. Don't take me for hacking on the programmer, they already have my money... cheque's in the mail.
