Read, ask, get out and do. You will always have unanswered questions given that many of your questions can only be answered by you. You will find very few things that are just cut and dried black and white when it comes to modifying jeeps. If you have questions, search and ask, just be prepared to get multiple different answers which should indicate to you there really is no one right answer for any of this. Enjoy your new jeep.
It should be a sticky

I am glad I read this thread before buying anything. My jeep will go off road only a few times a year. Someone let me know if I am thinking right and have learned from the masters properly. I want the beefy look. So I am going to focus on tires and not on a lift for what I want/need out of it. From what I understand I can get 33's under the stock suspension. Ill have to install bumpers or spring spacers or cut away to gain clearance with out rubbing. I may change the shocks out for a better smoother ride.

Also if you are putting on wider tires you will probably either need wheels with the appropriate backspacing or wheel centric spacers to move the tire away from the frame..

These are NOT my Jeeps but rather ones that are for sale at a local dealer and may give you an idea of sorts of what yours would look like. They added a 1.75 inch lift (I am guessing spacers) and Procomp wheels with 33" BFG KM2s. If is also comical to note they are charging $5995 for this upgrade when at most it would cost us a retail price of around $2500.

Yes with the popularity of this thread, it only made sense to add it as a sticky

Dirtman,

I appreciate the time and effort you are taking with this thread... Scooby Barkley turned me onto the thread... (He's a friend)... I also appreciate the feedback that everyone has offered.... This is a good read...

Having said that. I have a question/request.. I just bought a 2015 JKU that I'm turning into a tribute jeep for Veterans (I'm a combat veteran).. because I'm on a staged budget (aren't we all) I'm looking at building the JKU as I can... Some stuff will be donated (Supercharger, etc...) Some stuff is out of pocket.

My thought is first phase of the build will be tires, gears, flares. I'm putting 37's on the rig.. Probably Mickey MTZs (Just because they have always been my preferred shoe). I also have a set of Bushwacker flat flares sitting in my garage that will go on when I get the 37s. I'm going 4.88 Yukons on the automatic tranny. (if I'm lucky I'll get the supercharger during the first phase and have it installed as well)

My question: I am going to be forced to stay with the stock suspension for awhile.. is there a way to maximize the stock setup for 37s, flat flares, 4.88 gears and maybe a SC?) I'm looking at Fox 2.5 shocks.. but welcome any advice.

The overall intent of this build is to have a trail worthy rig that everyman can afford to own. Yeah, I know if I won the lottery I could build a beast.. but I'd like to build something that functions well, and is upgradeable as cost permits.

As it stands now.. it's a blank canvass. I'm interested in thoughts..

MG

37's on no lift even with flats is going to be limited off road. You can run that fine without a supercharger and the gearing you listed if you bump stop it and push the wheels out. You should be looking at a net bs of 3"-3.5"
I would not worry about shocks at this time because you want to size them to the lift and final tire size. You could always just throw some coil spacers on and add some longer sway bar disconnects which would fit your goals of a budget build.

good luck

This pic is for you "TheDirtman", it goes with the questions I PM you about my lift. The top pic is before with 0.75" coil spacers all around and the bottom pic is now with 1.75" coil spacers all around...
