I have 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers with 5.13gears. I'm running around 2500 RPMs at 70-75mph. I live in Florida so we don't have many hills but when I do get to a hill at 70mph and put the gas down a little it will downshift and pull the hill easily. It doesn't want to pop in and out of OD like 4.10 gears did, it is a lot smoother. I've never tried 5.38 but I'm very happy with my 5.13 gears.

Only run 5.38's if you're planning to go with tires bigger than 35's. Otherwise, I wouldn't go any higher than 5.13's, if even that. Lots of people run 4.88's and are perfectly happy with them.
