Default Need help determining best wheel backspacing

Hi All,

I have an OME 2" lift kit installed and am hopefully about to get some 12.5" x 33" tyres and wheels to suit. Where I live I am not allowed to have any rubbing at full lock and am not allowed to have ANY tyre protruding past the flares/mudguards with the wheels straightl. So a few questions:

1) Can I install the wheels and tyres I want and meet the legal requirements (no rubbing, no protrusion past the guards), or is this unobtainable with the stock guards?

2) What backspacing on the wheels would be necessary to achieve this?

Your advice is appreciated!

Greg.

Thanks. The FAQ mentions that there may be some rubbing with 4.75" backspacing. Do you agree?

I was hoping I could get away with 4.5"...

I don't see how there will be rubbing, maybe -- rarely -- when your wheel/tire is tucked into the fender and clipping the coil holder.

Figure the factory wheel is 6.25". There are many people you will see running the OME coils with 33's or 35's that will either be 11.5" wide or 12.5" wide. Because they are running the factory wheels, they either have no wheel spacer, a 1" wheel spacer, a 1.25" wheel spacer, or a 1.50" wheel spacer. So lets do the math...

Factory is 6.25"

With a 1" wheel spacer, your backspacing is now 5.25"
With a 1.25" wheel spacer, your backspacing is now 5"
With a 1.50" wheel spacer, your backspacing is now 4.75"

I am pretty sure you will be okay with even 5" of backspacing; 4.75" of backspacing I am sure will work even better; 4.5" of backspacing is probably the safest route and the common desired backspacing for wheels when upgrading the JK.

Power to you, bra. Hope you wheel gnarly and conquer the extremes beyond the radical heights of awesomeness. Peace, bra. Peace

Thanks mate. Useful info and well illustrated.

Any idea if 12.5" wheels will protrude out past the guards with 4.5" backspacing? I am not allowed to have any tyre outside the guard where I live.

Thanks again,

Greg.

Ok thanks. That's a bit more than I would like. Gonna have to find some 10.5s if I can...

I'm running 12.50 and I don't stick out past the fenders (if I do you would have to measure because it would be slight).

My Hutchinsons have 4.6 backspacing and with 12.5" wide tires I stick out about an inch.

probably stock wheel with no spacer?

I run 31.5X10.5R17 on stock wheel no spacer and there is 1 inch free before they stick out.
