Default Need help, hot hot hot floor boards

I have a 2012 JKU with many mods. My floor as well as frame is getting very hot. My first thought is heat from transmission radiating through the jeep floor. I was about to get a tranny cooler but then was told the 2012 already comes standard with one. One mod was new heavy duty axle, as well as 4.88 gears, 35 wheels, tons of extra weight from bumpers, roof rack, etc. the jeep in an auto. Is this heat normal? Don't want to keep pushing it and cause damage to transmission

Any advice?

Get a trans temp gauge and monitor it. If you've got that much heat stockpiling then you may want to put a couple vents in the hood to cool that down as well as a larger trans cooler (if you've already got one, which I don't recall being an optional feature).

Are all of your heat shields in place? Missing heat shields will cause an increase in temps.

Do you have a full skid plate covering the exhaust cross over and tranny and oil pan? This could be causing some of the heat retention. A friend modified his hard rock skid to bolt to the skid bar allowing the exhaust crossover pipe to be open. This helped his heat issue, although I don't think his was getting that hot he just worries about that kind of stuff. He did say his tranny temp drop, not sure how much.

I do have full skid plates installed. Would be nice if its as simple as that. Ill install a temp gauge for transmission. Anyone do this on a 2012? Recommendations on part or brand?

Hood vents help transmission? You talking about the heat reduction hood? I believe the trans cooler was already in jeep. I was told all 2012 automatics came with it standard Wondering how good it is vs aftermarket.

Just looked under jeep. Looks like the Evo skid plates cover a lot. That may be the culprit. Anyone else have Evo plates with this issue?

The hood vents will reduce the temps of the motor and under the hood- thus less heat soak happening to the trans, but the vents will not *directly* cool the tranny.

If it does already have a tranny cooler then go with a larger one. The last this you want to do is smoke the tranny. Just my 2 cents- if I had trans temp concerns then I wouldn't hesitate to replace the cooler from the factory for one that is larger for more heat disapation....maybe one with a small electric fan on it too.

On my old Bronco, I added a remote filter from B&M, it included a port for a tranny temp gauge. You'd be surprised how hot that thing can get. Bought a tranny cooler not soon after.

is it getting hot just when your off road in 4w-drive or on road in 2w-drive also? if it's always you could temporarily remove the skid and see how that effects the tranny temp...
not saying to remove this skid for good, sense we do need them especially to protect those 2 lines... but just to experiment...

anyhow it'll be interesting to follow this and see what you find out and do..

good luck

On road in 2wd. Spoke to dealer and he said 2012 has cooler and if got that hot then warning light would have come on and jeep would have gone in limp mode. So next step is remove Evo skid plates and drive like a mad man and see what happen. Cheap fix if that's the problem
