Default Need Help Identifying Weird Brake Noise

Alright, here's my isse. This just started a few days ago and only happens the first couple of times I hit my brakes each time I get in with everything "cold"....

A fews stats...... 36,000 miles (see sig block for everything else):

- Weird machine like scraping noise coming from back passenger side
- I think it's coming from the brakes (since it only happens when i hit the brakes)
- When applying the brakes, there is no vibration or feeling at all from the brake pedal
- It happens even if you b-a-r-e-l-y tap the brake pedal
- Goes away after a few minutes and doesn't happend again until everything's "cold" again.

It doesn't seem to be a huge issue since it goes away after my first few brake taps, but it does happen every morning before work and again after work when i get going again.

Any ideas? I want to identify a potential problem before it gets worse.

Thanks!

Check your pads, they're probably done

If it's the pads wouldn't they do it all the time, not just at the beginning? I can mash the brakes as hard as I want after they've warmed up and it doesn't make a sound......

Something is sticking or rubbing, easiest way to find out is to check the pads.

It's not that hard to pull the caliper off and check it, Mine was doing that at 18, 000m pad's were almost gone, think the squeal incator broke off the pad or something so it wasn't squealing all the time

Gotcha..... Hopefully it's just the pads. Thanks for the info!

I thought I had the same problem. A metal squeel expecially when cold.
Turned out to be my rear driveshaft. I didn't know they had to be greased every oil change.
They were JE Reels and not stock, so YMMV.

Just another thought for you to check out. Also make sure nothing is rubbing of course, and check your brake pads first since its the easiest.

I dunno, greasing your driveshaft may be easier to start off with

If you look in the u-joint, you should see either a grease nipple or some use a recessed??? grease point. That one is hard for me to find, but its there.
