Default Need Help with picking gears for towing pop up.

I know the gear question has been brought up many times but need help in picking something that I know I will be happy with. I have an 08 2 door X 6 speed on 33s. I have 3.21 gears right now and its ok. I do plan on going with 35s so i know i will need 4.88 or 5.13. I will not be going with 35s until another year. The reason why i want to regear is because i tow a 1600lbs pop up. SO it really sucks to be in 3 gear trying to go up a hill and RPMS are at like 4000. i tow my pop up at least once a month to go camping. During the summer i tow maybe 2 times a month. So I guess the question is. Will going 4.88 and 35s give me better result than 33s and 3.21 when towing. or should i just wait it out until i get 35s and go with 5.13. I just see 4.88 doable with 33s but not 5.13s. any help will be great. I know i dont have any pics right now but just learning how to use the forum.

Hey man welcome.....Im know expert, but this is what I did. For several months I read and re-read every post there is on gears and there is alot of posts. So I threw out all posts and suggestions on who wanted to regear and only used the ones that acually regeared. I measured my tires and found the threads that matched my driving habits. Long short I went from 321 to 488s 4dr 6 sp and very happy. good luck and do your research.

I will tell you this....the 321s sucked!

I have a 2 door 6 speed with 4.88s and 35's(measure 34.2"). It will pull 800-900 pounds easily. I haven't had to try anything more than that. FYI, owner's manual says 1000 pounds is the max for 3.21 gears.

Choose your gears for the 99% of the time you are not towing, not the 1% of the time you are...

Plug some numbers into the RPM chart in the Drivetrain FAQ (use 'actual' tire heights, not mfg's specs)
