need help-vibration
I am getting a vibration at around 75 PMH not a really bad vibration but one that it annoying as hell. i'm all getting a little shake in my steering wheel at around 40 MPH sometimes. I'm pretty sure my ball joints are bad causing the shake in the steering wheel.
I have reblanced my tires and my driveshafts.
adjusted my caster and pinion angle.
checked all my torque for my bolts on everything. '
after all of these none of the vibes or steering shake has changed at all
and i can't get it to go away or figure it out.
if i start off on a nice paved road i don't get the shake in the steering wheel all the time.
can't tell at highway speeds because Oklahoma has the worse roads in the world and they are all bumpy.
now i wouldn't think so but could the bad ball joints be causing the whole jeep to shake a little at 75-80 MPH?
I just checked my ball joints this morning and found about 1/8 + play in them, in fact if i just jack up my jeep by my front control arm mount i can see and hear the ball joint move,so i haven't got around to replacing them yet.i will get to this sometime over the next week or so.but i'm wondering if i need to start looking other places for my highway speed vibes?
I'm almost to the piont of giving in and taking it to a shop to have checked out, but i really don't want to do that yet.
I still might take it up and have the tires balanced again.but i really don't think that is the issue.
any thoughts would be a great help thanks

speed related vibes like you described are almost always a tire balancing issue. also, i have had to take my tires in to be balanced 2-3 times before they got it right or close to right - you might want to take it in again.
now, if you have done that and still have vibes, have you tried pulling your front driveshaft and taking your jeep for a spin and then doing the same with the rear? process of elimination is sometimes the easiest way to figure things out.

yeah thaose are pretty much the steps i'm going to take tomorrow morning after work.
I figure i will pull the front driveshaft and try it out
then the rear, but i not sure how i feel doign 75-80 in 4WH without the rear driveshaft.
then if it's not gone back to the tire shop.
I did a lot to the Jeep a few weeks ago and now i can't find out where the vibe is comming from.
it all started after i put in Rubi 44 front and rear(they had about 8000 miles on them when i got them). rear drive shaft, rortated my spare tire into the mix,and upgraded my FT bushing to the FT polyflex bushings. I had all this on for a couple of weeks before i got on the highway and as soon as i got on the turnpike and hit 75MPH or so i knew something was wrong and my first thought was my spare tire that i rotated in was out of balance. so i went in and had my front tires balanced the the next day my rear tires then this week my rear driveshaft.
I'm still not convinced that my tires are balanced right though, because like you speed related vibes almost 99% of the time come from the tires.
