Default need info for upgrading spline count d30

looking into either chromoly axles or the rcv axels. the rcv is 30 spline, my stock d30 is 27 spline. i have 5.13 r&p wth arb locker.

can i run 30 spline wthout changing anything or would i need to change out the hub and can i run higher spline count wth the r&p and locker. i didnt know if the locker and r&p are spline specific or if u can run higher counts

any info appreciated and any info everything i would have to change out to run higher splines.

To run 30 spline shafts you would need to change your front differential and order special length RCV shafts. 30 spline shafts designed for a 44 will not work.

Your most cost effective/strongest option is to buy 27 spline RCV shafts.

david, im stuck and cant decide!
i have busted both front axles on the d30 offroad, starts wth that weak ujoint then tears up the lobes and damages from there. now that i see the 27 spline, im really stuck now on what to get, but man i like those rcv's!

i have 5.13 r&p, arb locker, on 37's. i know arb is super strong but im worried if i get the rcv i will transfer my weak link to the ring, but i cant keep breaking axles every time i offroad and i cant do a 44 or 60 yet. but then there are the chromolys which i have personally seen snap more often than they should.

i dont know if this is really a delima or not, maybe im overthinking this. as my buddy say
"u tryin to polish a turd" wth the d30

i need some true honest opinions, and im not concerned about which is cheaper.

I have said it many times I never build a front end with a weak link and for the most part it has always worked.

Personally I would go RCV's and personally I am going RCV's on my front end as soon as I get around to finishing it.

well most likely i will go wth the rcv's. i will get ahold of u probably first week in june, as i have other parts i need for the front end. i was in a wreck and some parts got bent. its not worth claiming on insurance. i work offshore so wont be back in town untill june 15, so i figure that should give plenty of time to arrive before i get home,
thanks again david

yes u are right, when i first bought my jeep and lifted it, i had zero knowldge of any of this stuff, all i knew is i wanted big tires and a lift, so thats what i did, i had no clue what i was geting into, well now i know. now over the last 3 years, i have learned sooooo much more about jeeps, lifts, offroading, etc... even wth 3 yrs of offroading behind me, i still have alot to learn, and some things i am learning unfortunately from experience such as snapping the ujoints and axles

but, there are many many people who are breaking u-joints and axles with only 33's, so where does the line get drawn for tire size on the d30? untill i have a sugar momma that will buy me 60's i have to deal with what i bought. at this time, it is more cost effective to try to build up the d30 than buy another front end. i understand where u are coming from, thats why i was asking for opinions on this about axles, also thats why i put my buddies quote in here

"wth the d30, u are tryin to polish a turd, no matter how many times u polish it, its still a turd"

thanks for ur input under dawg

Default D30

Great thread, I am in the same spot, eccept I have't broken anything "yet", D30-5.13s-ARB locker-27 spline. 35" tire's. I cant aford bigger axle's at this time ,but I do want to go up to 37"tire's. If I do the sleeves & gussets, and upgrade the axle shaft's do you think I will be able to handle 37s ? or should I just wait for axle upgrade?
