Need to remove ring gear to pull pin?
Ok folks,, have a question for ya,,, My 2007 JK is a 98% street vehicle,, (sorry no legal off roading in MD and I am too old to "avoid" cops) but it has an open rear, (they should be outlawed!!!) so I am looking at a Power trax Lock Right. Here is my question,, I have 3.21 gears, before I go and open the rear, can you pull the spider pin WITHOUT pulling the ring gear? I ask because if I have to pull the ring,, I am picking up a stripped carrier, putting the LR in it, opening the rear, pull the diff, swap ring and put new assembly in. (Hey I'm 48 years old and getting lazy)
At some point I am going 4.10s, so when I do I am going to swap carrier, but right now don't feel like doing BOTH rears this year. I am going with the LR because I can swap that into the 4.10 carrier later.
Thanks,
Tom

You can pull the carrier as long as all your shims and caps go back in the same.
The spider pin has a small roll pin holding it in, I don't think it would come out easy without pulling the carrier.
I've done a few Aussies on front axles, its fairly easy to pull the carrier out, slap the locker in and put the back in.

is why I asked,,, I am not worried about having to pull diff,, just if I don't HAVE to I don't WANT to,, like I said,, I'm getting lazy in my old age.

You man not have to. The roll pin holding in the cross pin should be accessible with just the diff cover off.
Take the cover off and turn the ring gear till you see the hole for the roll pin.

Tap thru the other side with a long punch and remove.

The cross pin should slide out from there.
