need steering stabilizer?
There are many posts in this forum about lifts and DW (death wobble) and steering stabilizers. But i cant seem to find the answer to one simple question: How neccessary is an upgraded steering stabilizer when lifting and going bigger tires (35s)? Will the stock dampner do the job?
I ran my stock SS for over a year on 35s. No problems...when I smashed it on a rock I upgraded and relocated. So I dont think it is necessary right away.
Many people state an aftermarket steering stabilizer will help fix the DW....it will only mask a much larger problem that actually causes the DW. You will see there are 1000 different opinions on that

I'd only upgrade mine if somehow it got smashed on a rock or something. Other than that, your stock SS will be fine.
yea, i figured my after-market parts guy was just trying to tack on a few extra parts to the order. Ill ditch the SS and just grab the relocator. Thanks for the quick responses guys!
Before going for a relocation bracket, consdier a track bar brace. The JKS front track bar brace will gusset the track bar connection on the axle as well as relocating the SS. It does require welding

For what its worth, before you say no.. I experienced an odd shudder coming from the front over road imperfections. I noticed an odd leak in the right front of the engine compartment on my driveway. I looked all around. It was the SS, the fluid was leaking when it came into its travel. My SS slid freely like a kids slide whistle. My 2 cents would be if you are lifting and since DW is not uncommon due to wear. Check it since you are going to be under it anyway. Then check all your torque specs on the steering and suspension components. Its cheap and easy security.
Okay, well my dual SS is overkill according to many but it did improve my road manners (rough pot hole type roads) after lifting and going to 35s. Notice I did the lift and tires first, then felt the need for the SS. Happy with the money spent.
