Need Tire/Rim selection help (specifics would be great)
There are some really smart folks on this forum, and I need your help. I'm currently in Iraq and have a 2010 Black Sahara JK waiting for me when I get home next month. My brother is putting a 4in lift on it, and has asked me what tires and rims I want on it (i'm paying for it all). I want the rig to look aggressive, but I also want to be smart about it. It will see WAY more street time than trail time...just being honest with myself.
I've been reading threads about backspacing(should be no less than 3.75, avoid spacers if possible, etc, etc) and sidewall height(best to maintain a sidewall of 7.5 which matches Jeep specs ie. 20in rim for a 37in tire, etc, etc), so many different opinions on this. Bottom line, I'd like to have the biggest tire/rim on it without compromising highway safety or increasing wear and tear on hubs and other components. The plan is to modify this beast with my son over the next several years, and then give it to him on his 16th birthday(he is unaware of Dad's intent). So, I'd like it to be a nice stable vehicle that looks tough and isn't going to require him to fix and replace parts that prematurely wear out as a result of my ignorance. I'm gone ALOT, unfortunately.
I appreciate any advice you folks have for me, and would love specifics on what has worked for you with pics, if possible...I'm an old CJ owner that is getting back into the family, and bringing my son along for the ride. Thanks in advance.
Respectfully,
jrc
