Default Neeeeeeewbie's questions.

Hey guys,

New to the Jeep game. Just picked up a 11' Jeep Sport 4 Door and looking to do some simple mods and am clueless. Initially I was debating putting a lift, but after further research I think I may be adding the following. If something doesn't add up or needs to be changed, please let me know. Pics will be soon to follow as I am moving on this really fast.

1. Bushwacker Flat Flares in order to run (if possible, thats why I'm asking)
1a. 35 inch tires, Possibly Nitto Grapplers
1b. 18 inch rims.
2. Metalcrafters Crome grill insert
3. AEV Heat Reduction Hood.
4. Of course a stubby 8' antenna. Looks like the best mod I've seen!

I do not go on trails, I live in New Jersey! I'm looking for an aggressive look. I'm not opposed to putting a lift on it, yet I don't want to void the warranty this early in its life, she only had 2500 miles on her.

Anything else I should know please suggest. I am new to this and all comments, thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, the trail grapplers are the ones I was referring to. I love the look of the mud grapplers but it's not feasible.

I'll look up about the Crome inserts, save some $ so I can spend it on other stuff.

Where's the best place to purchase a teraflex leveling kit? Is it a difficult install?

There are a bunch of lift installs down in the Write-Ups area. (index stickied up top). Use any of them, as they are basically the same steps regardless of brand. Jack a corner up, disconnect some stuff, remove the coil, put the spacer on top, reinstall coil/spacer, re-connect everything, move to next corner. Not hard, just takes a little time.

For the rims, make sure you get the right backspace to move the new tires out away from the frame/components.

There is a good FAQ stickied right at the top of this modified area that will answer a lot of questions.

Call David at Northridge4x4. Very straight forward install for leving kit and I would recommend it along with flat fenders. (cut or new) Good luck to you.

Here's mine. Gutter guards Lowes and some epoxy off the lowes glue isle, black paint and nylon ties to hold in place while epoxy dries maybe $20.

chrome inserts = fail. horrible.

why aev hood? you could spend that money many other more functional mods. like a budget boost, leveling kit

I tried the flat flares so I can run larger tires without a lift. The first time I took it offroad with 34" tires I darn near tore them off as the tires rubbed at full stuff. I added enough bump stop to prevent the rubbing but then I was bouncing off the stops every time there was a whoop on the freeway. Instead of just treating symptoms, I had to break down and get a coil lift.

Moral of the story...get the flat fenders if you like the look of flat fenders. Get a proper (and complete) lift kit if you want to run larger tires.
