New JK Owner, ready to start the build
Hi, My name is Cooper Im 19 and from The bay area. I already posted in the new members area but I feel ill get a better response here. Yesterday my dad bought a 2012 JK Unlimited sport. Though it's his car, we plan on working together building it up and off-roading. Our knowledge isn't to vast on jeeps, but we have hopes to make one badass Jeep! Besides introducing myself, I wanted to ask about suspension. We plan on lifting it this week but are very indecisive on what to go with. We want a smooth ride but something we can off road in very well, and looking aggressive. I have been looking at the teraflex 3" pre runner with fox shocks, and I also looked at the Rubicon Express 3.5" super flex with fox shocks. My main question really is what suspension do you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Cooper
Thanks,
Cooper
It really depends on what off roading you want to do. Are you looking to run fast in the desert? That set up is really designed for fast Baja style running. If that really is your plan I would look at the Evo double throw down kit.
If you are looking to do forest trails, mudding, rock crawling or anything that isn't speed related you are probably spending way too much on unnecessary parts. A lot of companies make kits that are much cheaper and will give a great ride. It really depends on the purpose.

I went with a rough contry 3.25 coil and spring lift myself. $400 for a lot of capability and you don't need to adjust anything else that doesn't come in the box. I've got no wobbles on the highway, I run 35's no problem, and have done all the hardest trails in GA with ease. Start cheap and upgrade after you know more about your jeep and what it can do. Your going to be suprised how good that sport is off road stock!
This...and look into gears/front driveshaft. Oh, and beware...you and you're dad are about to embark into a totally different addiction! Believe me it's ridiculous addiction that creates nothing but wife/gfriend agro!

Thanks for all the help guys! Today I went to the local shop (Jeff Arabia's Jeep overkill). We talked about all the different lifts and options. Im currently waiting for the full estimate, but looks like we will be going with The Rubicon Express 3.5" long arm with the Fox 8 way adjustable shocks. For wheels and Tires It's going to be the black ProComp 7032 alloys with Toyo M/T 35/12.5
