New tire carrier!

This is a prototype. But it is basically what it will look like, just a cosmetic refinement or two and it will be ready to go. Tell me what you think! Patent pending.

Mount has an up and a down position. Allows the rear window to be used again!

SaFFFari 02-06-2013 10:41 AM

Hmmm... Ur in California, so thats in my favor... Let's see how it looks when your done (particularly around the hinge). And as long as ur not as expensive as teraflex.. I'd get one

wecf 02-06-2013 10:44 AM

Not far from you, if you want to come check it out let me know. I will be at KOH later today-Sat.
Hinge is the main part I'm working on right now, these were made with my manual mill, the final ones will be CNC'd

Ryan0260 02-06-2013 10:51 AM

So your going to be mass producing them?

Yes, I can't advertise here yet, working on a vendor star now. I'm hoping to start production in a week or two. Will cost less than similar products, not sure how much yet, working on priceing. Let me know what you'd like to see, It is still a prototype so some things can change a little.

Boyerracing343 02-06-2013 11:00 AM

Im far away but depending on fit and finish, and price i may be very interested.

wecf 02-06-2013 11:04 AM

I can tell you my door closes better than it ever did with the factory hinges. Did I say it is Made In The USA?

bobafetske 02-06-2013 01:04 PM

Sweet, keep us posted

NVW-SSV 02-06-2013 01:08 PM

Subscribed!

Ryan0260 02-06-2013 01:34 PM

Nice. What size tire will it hold, and have you figured a price range?

wecf 02-06-2013 02:00 PM

Has a beadloclked 37" on it right now with a molly setup inside the door, I will have to do some testing with a 40". Holds a 37" without a wiggle. I can't talk price until I get a vendor star, waiting for reply on getting one. Will be less (much less i hope) than similar products on the market.

Ryan0260 02-06-2013 02:26 PM

Is it a hinge system? Doesn't look like it attaches to the bumper. Any idea when these will be ready to ship?

Ryan0260 02-06-2013 02:27 PM

Also, what is the install like?

wecf 02-06-2013 02:46 PM

Yes it is a hinge system. Install is very easy took me 1/2 hr (I do have some practice at it though) So I'd figure at most 1 1/2 hrs. You just remove the stock tire carrier and stock hinges and install the new HD hinge assembly. Trying to finish up the hinges to make them look better, that is just a matter of looks though. Trying to be able to start shipping soon, waiting on info from JK-Forum to get my vendor star before I can post price/shipping dates.

robsjeep9 02-06-2013 02:48 PM

Subscribed and interested.... PLEASE DONT RAPE US CANADIANS IN SHIPPING!!!! lol
So tired of that!!!!!

4W-Jive 02-06-2013 03:06 PM

All I can say is, it's about time someone add a touch of capitalism. Kudos sir, looking forward to the outcome.

Looks like good stuff. Any plans to do anything else? Bumpers, sliders, skids, etc.

Heholua 02-06-2013 04:04 PM

How much will it weigh as compared to the aluminum version(TF)?

It will weigh more, but it is going to cost less. I do not have the weight yet.

Cpthulk 02-06-2013 04:30 PM

Can you post a pic without the tire on it? Any possibility of attaching a high lift jack?

I would like to see this as well

Tripletsi 02-06-2013 05:27 PM

Looks like you're using TeraFlex's R&D just as Dennis said competitors would in the TeraFlex Tech YouTube video!

robsjeep9 02-06-2013 07:02 PM

Hmmmmmm...... Avoided my concern/question. We Canadians are going to be raped with shipping right? I already have myself and 2 others very interested and that's just in one afternoon.... Just worried about shipping.

I get ready for that cease and desist letter from Teraflex for ganking their design considering a patent has been issued.

I totally get your point, but doesn't it seem pretty broad to patent a beefier hinge? It's kind of a common sense solution to a known issue.

Agree completely! Only reason I haven't gone with a tire carrier or hd hinge like teraflex yet is because it costs way to damn much to ship or buy here! Looking at almost $1000 for the entire package after tax and shipping that teraflex offers :(

If you can work out deals for us north of the boarder I'm sure your product will expand very quickly!

It took 6 years of the JK for someone to come out with this style carrier... No matter how common sense it seems now, it wasn't before Teraflex released it.

No ill will intended, wish the OP luck but as a business owner with multiple trademarks, copyrights and patents, my Cease and Desist would already be in the mail!

From my research NR offers the Teraflex hd hinge shipped for free for far less than $1k

Add the extra cost for being in NR.ca and it comes out to just shy of $900 then add 12% tax hence my cost evaluation.. If I was in the states it would be way cheaper like you said.

Hi, I'm out at KOH working the pits so I have limited time to reply. Shipping will cost no more than it costs me to ship it.

My design has not one thing to do with any other manufactures design out side of using THE FACTORY hinge and door attachment points. It is not a "modular" design. It is not a rip off of someone else's work. I have never seen any competitors design outside of passing Internet pics. It is also PATENT PENDING with a patent search being conducted to see if it encroaches on anyone's design patent.

I could be wrong but I think it's a tariff from Canada that makes the shipping be so high.

Exactly, I don't think they can patent the use of the factory hinge locations Jeep might have something to say about that. Also using a HD hinge in this same fashion is not new, it was done on YJ's and TJ's before the JK came out. Besides the fact that my design does not look or function like anyone else's designs.
