Default New Wheels

Need some help with which wheels and tires to go with. I want to get out of my stock 17's and find a replacement wheel. I hear so much complaining about bad wheels and not being able to balance them, that I thought I would ask which brand(s) you guys recommend I look at. I am going to go to 35's and want something that is good quality and as I have said, balances without a hundred weights on each wheel.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

depends on what you want. Functionally the cragar soft 8s have been great and took little to balance. Aesthetically AEV looks sweet but I have heard they are a beyatch to balance...

Hate to disagree, but I could never get my Cragar Soft 8's to balance...ever. Tire shop could not figure out which one was causing the problem. In and out of the tire shop at least 6 times.

On a positive note, I purchased the ProComp 8179 and they balanced perfectly right out of the gate.

I know a lot of people are going to pipe up about lug centric or hub centric. Since I don't know squat about either, I will let the pros speak up. Good luck.

perhaps you had bad wheels or your tire shop is full of retards I have a friend that specializes in Jeeps and he did it with very little weight. You are the first I have heard of anyone having issues with them hub centric, non hubcentric.... either work just fine. Hubcentric you can slap on and tighten any old way.... non you just use a cross pattern and viola. No issues ever with non hubs

hmmm, ok so that is 2 I have heard of by theory steel wheels are usually prone to more imperfections than alloy so it makes sense.... I have heard great things about the RR alloys btw

But just thought of the PA winters and thought that I would have a rusting problem also.
oh ya I know about them rusting. Where the center piece meets the rim already has surface rust.... but I replace my wheels and tires all in the same shot so I plan on them not lasting forever

I wanted the durability of steel but had a bad experience with the Black Rock "soft 8s" and finally just went with ATX Artillery rims with Firestone Destination M/T s and love them so far. They came mounted and ballanced and have less than 2 oz on the worst one. Most have 4-5 1/4oz weights on them. They ride real nice.

I like my AEV wheels alot, they were really easy to balance (only one weight each, I think), and they look great. They are, however, expensive, and prone to rock-rash at 17".
