Default Newb tire/wheel question

Hey guys,

I'm looking at some 37x12.5x17 MTRs with Kevlar for my build that specify 8.5 - 11 inch wheels. The wheels I'm looking at are 17 x 8s. Will it be acceptible to mount the tires even though it's out of the rim width range? What would be the consequences if any?

Thanks!

Another n00b here. (Hell I don't even own a JK yet...I'm still planning :-)

anyhow, I happened on this FAQ posted by wayoflife:

There's a "Wheel & Tires" section where he recommends 8" width rims if you plan to air down.

Thanks for the input. I noted that before I submitted, but I haven't really seen what the results would be of going smaller than the approved rim width. Maybe someone who's running that setup could chime in.

As long as your shop will mount them, you won't have any issues. (some shops will not mount tires on rims that are narrower than the mfg's 'recommended' spec)

Thanks for your input guys. I checked with the tire place that'll do the mounting, and they didn't have a problem. It looks like a go
