Default Newbie question for mounting light brackets

I was planning on mounting the light brackets on the windshield. Can anyone suggest if there is some sort of spacer or gasket I can use so that its not metal on metal incase I take them off to protect the paint? Thanks!!

My KC brackets came with a thin piece of foam already attached to the back. Not sure about the other companies though.

Most bracket kits come with a foam spacer. If not the foam 2 sided tape works pretty well or just about anything else will work.
