Default Newbie would like to use the hardtop. & get a softop.

Hello all. This is really an awesome site. I just bought a JK unlimited 4 door about a month ago and love it. I especially love it when I have the front panels off and go driving around. I don't go off-roading although I would love too! My question is I plan on leaving the rear-hardtop in place. I commute to the city and feel the Jeep is safer with the hard top on but I like to take the front panels off. Is there such a top that just covers the front so I can roll it on roll it off when I need too. It's a bit of a pain to keep putting the front panels on and off everytime I want to get some sun! Thanks for your replys!!!

not entirely sure about just a cover for the front just leave the panels off. at least it would look suspicious if some fool was climbing in your roof someone would call the police. but if you do some searching around you might be able to find something but as far as i know there is nothing out there that i have seen.

and welcome to the JK-forum

Thanks for the quick reply. And thanks. I don't think I will be doing as many MODS as some of the folks on this site have done but I have gotten lots of ideas!!! Wonderful site!!!

I guess what I am looking for is a cover that goes over just the front two sections where the Freedom panels would be. I live on Long Island and work 11 hour days so in the a.m. for that 5 minute drive I would love to have the front off and when I get to the station I would roll over a cover that would keep and inclement weather ETC. ETC. out! and when I drive home weather permitting I would just roll or take the top off. I would really like to keep the panels off altogether during the summer months and use the hard top "Full-time" during the winter. Once again thanks for the reply.

Would a trail cover work for you? There are different flavors of them but here's an example

It looks nice, I just would like something a little easier, more user friendly. I was hoping there would be a "bikini top" type that could go on and off very easy. I am not the most handy person in the world. I was thinking about getting a soft top for use during the summer then use the hard top during winter months but I think the logistics are not there for me. I would have no place to store the hard top and I would totally screw up any sort of sealent there might be to keep all elements out. Who knows. Thanks everybody!!

Have you tried taking off the front freedom top panels? They can be removed and stowed in less than 5 minutes. By the time you get to your destination and mess around putting a soft top or cover in place, you maybe better off saving your $$ and using the freedom top panels that you already have. You might check Bestop and Quadratec for top ideas.
