Default NFAB nerf bars?

NFAB nerf bars worth a crap for JKU? I have little kids so they need the extra step... I also like the LOD rock sliders but doesn't get much step in. Do the nerf bars provide any protection?

There were nerf bars on my YJ when I bought it. When I pulled them off to put PS rocker knockers on, the nerf bars seemed pretty light and thin so I wouldnt think they provide much protection. Maybe that brand is better made.

I just put them on my 2012 Unlimited and I love them. I and running a 3.5" AEV lift and 35's and the are perfect for my kiddos. Sorry for the garage pic...but I thought I would show you, the pic makes them look like the stick out further than they actually do.

I just put the N-Fab's on my 2012. I am very happy w/ the look and functionality for small people (my kids) getting in/out. As for functional sliders/rock rail protection, I think they limit you a little and do obviously hang down ~3" from the frame. I'm guessing it is only a limitation for the serious crawlers. Quality is good, install isn't too bad. Powdercoating matches the stock black feners pretty darn close. I'm stock for now, but plan to go 2.5 or 3.5" lift w/ 35's. I have seen them on lifted rigs and they still look good & in proportion. Click image for larger version

So how about protection, my guess is that they are great steps, sturdy, but if they took a hit they would fold?

Looks good! How about actual protection though, if you went through some rocks and took a hit would they fold?

Based on the install I did myself, I'd say pick another type if you really need or plan to bang them up a bit. They are more 'steps' than 'rock rails'. My $.02 Hope this helps.

If you plan on going through rocks, then I would pick something else, the steps would definitely cause you problems. If you just plan on trails, streams, mud, general 4x4 then you will be fine.
