No Death Wobble with Rack and Pinion?
For some of you more adventurous modders...
StudeOnly Axel & Steering
Did anyone ever consider attaching rack and pinion steering directly to the front axel? The individual on above site did it for a 62 Studebaker that had the tie-rod behind the axel. I would think you could get even better up and down travel (than the Studebaker) when rack and pinion is mounted in front the axel.
If you could do this, it would decouple the steering from the Panhard (track) bar by doing away with the drag link thereby eliminating the main cause of death wobble.
On the downside, you are adding more un-sprung weight to the axel.
I know there are after-market hydraulic steering options available now, but none of those I know of are street legal much less better than stock for the highway.
