Default No Doors.. wait no mirrors

Ok so i just bought some rugged ridge relocation brackets. It says to unscrew the torax below the mirror housing. Ive done so. Now it says that the mirrors should just pop out. Ive been muscling them around for about an hour .. anyone know how i can "pop" them out?

hmmm - there's nothing else holding them into the stock brackets, so you're probably ok to use some pretty strong force.

btw - alot of folks think that the threads between the rugged ridge brackets and the supplied bolts don't match, but for me they did, the only problem was that paint got into the female part, and the threads did't seem to match, but they actually did.

with one of the bolts, push on the mirrors from inside the door.

Thumbs down

yeah so.. the mirrors eventually came off. it seemed like there was some sort of bond between the two pieces but.. what ever.
I now ran into the mismatching threads. My dad took both the bolt and the plug to his shop. He's going to tap out the plug. I think that is mostlikely the reason for the "misfits". Ill keep in touch.

Yeah it is a tight fit, but it says it is from the powdercoat overspray?
I just kept going, using and extension on my wrench to get them to turn all the way down.....

If you are talking about the door filler plates. The thread pitch does not match the factory torx screws. It is not the powder coating. The factory screws are 8mm-1.25pitch. Also the factory screws that held the mirror brackest to the doors are too long. You can't pull the door plates up tight with the factory screws.

To keep a factory look on the inside of the door, I used 8mm-1.25 pitch socket button head screws that are about 2" long and flat black painted washers

The window frame screws are also 8mm-1.25 pitch. Do yourself a favor just reuse the factory screw on the underside of the mirror bracket. I used a 1/4" drive ratchet and a 5/16" socket holding the hex bit #40 torxdriver to turn in the factory screw with no problem.

The screws that came with kit are crap.

When you install the mirror head in to the new bracket, use one of the longer factory door screws to pull it down. But do not try to pull it down flush. The tapers do not match perfectly. There will be a gap between the bottom of the mirror and the top of the bracket. If you try to pull it flush you will break it or strip the screw. Also apply some grease or neverseize to the taper. It will allow you to take it apart more easily in the future.

holy crap.i had the same issue..when i called quadratec, that said the instructions in the mirror location were all F'd up..i couldn't get the mirrors to fit into the female part of the mount..i just got longer screws and the mirror sits about 3/4 an inch above the bracket..plus anyone notice that when you put the doors back ON, you can't see the passenger sdie mirror due to relocation? i wanna throw 'em back to quadratec and order some outlaw mirrors..how can that see something they know doesn't work/fit?

search for some recent threads on the Outlaw mirrors. Apparently they aren't perfect either.

I read about all of the problems but I still bought a pair. I encountered the same issues everyone else did. Passenger Mirror is for show only, silver bolts (come on!!) The mirror did seat down in with a little force. I will use them for the summer but when the hardtop goes back on I will switch the mirrors back to the doors.

I guess these are a necessary Evil but I have to say I would not buy another Rugged Ridge product for fear it would be just as effed up as this.
