Now I understand!!!!!!
Ok, so I've only had my Unlimited for about a month now and I finally get it. I'm going to be broke!!!!!
There are way too many things to mod on this thing. I owned a Jeep before, allbeit a Grand Cherokee (too much luxury), but only drove it. Now I find myself wanting...
1) Bigger tires
2) Newer rims
3) Grab handles
4) Side Steps
5) Dash cover
6) Bikini Top
7) Cargo cover
And those damn catalogs (thanks to my neighbor
) are addictive!
Enough of that - hopefully Santa (the misses) will be good to me
)
I've spent the better part of the morning (yes, I am @ work) searching threads for a good looking tire on stock rims. Maybe someone here can help.
1) What is the biggest/best tire for all purpose driving (snow and trails are the most I'll ever do) you can put on w/o a lift? I really want something that's a little wider than stock and have that aggresive look w/o too much noise.
2) And, what's the stock ride hieght on these rigs anyway? I keep reading where most are saying their's are way too low off the lot but I swear mine is pretty damn high. My nieghbor has a CJ w/2" lift, sitting on 33's, and I'm still higher than him. Any chance I already have some form of lift?
Thanks all for the great reading, information, and laughs.

If only they all realized how eye candy of an up to date web site can burn a hole in a wallet or through a money clip.

Traveled the same road as you. Went from feeding money into a street 442, then on to customizing a cruiser, finally ended up with a Porsche (of all things) before getting the JK. Always wanted a Jeep but couldn't get around the lack of room in the back.
Hey, anyone got a suggestion for bigger tires w/o lift?

Your shopping list isn't too bad. Just wait until you put bigger tires on, then your going to want to add drivelines, maybe re-gear. It's like every time I add something I find I need (or want) to upgrade something else. I tell myself I'm only going to add this one more thing, but then I find more.

Plan B - do a Body Lift instead of a suspension lift....BL's give more tire room than SL's anyway....as SL's let the tire compress back up to the same point anyway, so the tire hits on full compression with, or without, an SL.
BL's pick the fenders up out of the way...so on full compression, a 2" larger tire can clear with a 1" BL, a 4" larger tire with a 2" BL, etc.
BL's are a LOT cheaper than SL's as well, and, do not raise your COG enough to notice (More stable off camber/emergency maneuvers...) and do not require drive line mods like longer shafts, don't shift the axles over, etc.
Food for thought.
